Fonseca Wants A Different Striker As Alternative To Zirkzee

After the departure of Olivier Giroud, AC Milan have been on the search for a new top striker, and that search has lead them towards Joshua Zirkzee, but despite reaching personal agreement with the player, and also being ready to pay his €40m release clause, there is one final hurdle to cross.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgian is ready to open talks with Milan and Napoli, but Chelsea won’t sell him for less than €30m and are not open to a new loan deal. While they’re yet to firm up their interest, their new manager may have another idea entirely.

According to the same source, Paulo Fonseca has made it clear to the club that he is an admirer of Lukaku’s former teammate, Tammy Abraham and he is a name that could be explored. The former Lille coach has already made it known that he wants a that can make his presence felt in the opponent’s box.

Abraham tore the anterior cruciate in his left knee in June 2023 and returned to the pitch in April. His minutes were carefully managed as is logical after such a serious injury.

Before making a move for Abraham, who like, Lukaku was on the books of Chelsea, Milan will want assurance over his injury and will conduct series of test to determine if he has fully recovered. In the meantime, they will continue to push for Zirkzee, as the player already has his heart set on a move to the San Siro.


There was reportedly a meeting between Newcastle United and Milan, and in their discussion, a couple of names were mentioned, from Dominic Thiaw to Fikayo Tomori, while Milan inquired about Kieran Trippier.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle had previously contacted Milan to inquire about Tomori. And in this new meeting, they asked about Thiaw, but the response they got is that the duo are an important part of Milan’s project, so the Rossoneri are reportedly unwilling to sell.

But a separate report has it that the English defender has a price, believed to be between €40m and €50m. According to Romano, Milan also asked about Trippier, but talks the talks are not at an advanced stage.

It is well known that the Magpies are in search of defensive reinforcements, and they’ve made enquiries for Riccardo Calafiori and even most recently, Federico Gatti. This won’t be their first business deal in Italy, as they signed Sandro Tonali from Milan in the last summer transfer window.
