For Juventus, Thiago Motta Remains The Priority, Ex-Lazio Star An Alternative After Liverpool Emerge For Koopmeiners

Written By Onyeka Daniel

For Italian giants, Juventus, the priority still remains the hiring of Thiago Motta to become their next manager for next season as Massimiliano Allegri is considered to be unable to take the team further than they already are, hence a change in the summer is highly anticipated, barring any challenge from other top European clubs for his signature.

This will probably create a domino effect as Juventus and AC Milan are among the clubs interested in signing Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee in the summer, but Arsenal can outbid both Serie A clubs. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, matching Bologna’s €60m asking price would ‘not be a problem’ for the Premier League giants.

While the Old Lady would need to sell some of their players to raise the money required for the Dutch striker’s signature. The ex-Italy international is seen as the leading candidate for the job at the Allianz Stadium, and Zirkzee has massively developed under his guidance this season, scoring 12 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Arsenal and Juventus already fought for two signings over the last few years, and both times, the Bianconeri emerged victorious. First in the summer of 2021, when they signed Manuel Locatelli from Sassuolo and then a few months later, when Vlahovic snubbed a transfer to London, opting to move to Turin in January 2022.

Ex-Juventus striker Luca Toni has urged the Old Lady to sign Zirkzee as he feels the Dutch striker has appropriate characteristics to play alongside Vlahovic in the Bianconeri’s attack in 2024-25 and taking on Motta as coach will give them an advantage for Zirkzee too.

The pair were instrumental in helping Bologna secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League competition and they would be keen to reunite at Juventus or anywhere else to continue their relationship.

The Bianconeri wanted to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for much of last season as it seemed clear he would leave Lazio. The midfielder was one of the best players in his role in Europe while playing for Lazio. After helping them qualify for the Champions League last season, he was expected to leave the Rome club.

Juventus aimed to add him to their squad and reportedly worked on a deal to make that happen. However, he surprisingly became one of the top European stars to embrace the riches on offer in Saudi Arabia by joining Al Hilal. The midfielder’s move shocked most European football fans because he was one of the best players on the continent.

He has spent the last ten months in the Middle East but could return to Europe at the end of this term. According to a report on Tuttojuve, Juventus is still interested in signing him, and the Bianconeri could add him to their squad on loan when this campaign finishes.

This option would cost less than their primary target, Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners, who is said to be right on top of the list of targets for expected Liverpool next manager, Arne Slot and the Reds will have no problem matching the €60m that Atalanta will demand for the player in the summer.
