After leaving European Champions, FC Barcelona last summer, Lluís Cortés has been in the background. The coach has been collecting several awards after his successes as the head of Barcelona women last year, but at the sporting level, he remained in the shadows waiting for some attractive project.
More Details…
The Catalan coach sounds like a possible relief on the Manchester City bench, after a difficult start to the season for Barclays English FA Women’s Super League (WSL) side.
According to SPORT, Manchester City has the coach’s name on the table in case they decide to fire their current coach, Gareth Taylor. The ‘citizens’ were eliminated from the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the previous phase, after falling against Real Madrid, and succumbed in the FA Cup semifinals against Chelsea, but their situation in the Women Super League (WSL) is not much better.
The Manchester City women’s team has not started the season well, eliminated from the Champions League and seventh in the league.
Lluís Cortés announces that he will not continue on the Barcelona bench.
After six league games, Manchester City are seventh with only two victories and they cannot stumble much more if they do not want to see how the option of getting among the first three English sides hoping to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
For all this, the name of Gareth Taylor has been in doubt for weeks in Manchester, although the second league win achieved last weekend by City against Leicester may have momentarily prolonged his credit.

However, the pressure on Taylor continues. City is aware of Lluís Cortés’s will to find a new project and his credentials by winning the last Champions League make him an appealing candidate in Manchester, a place where he would meet Vicky Losada, who left Barcelona precisely due to lack of opportunities available to him last year.
The deal might be confirmed in the coming weeks depending on Manchester City’s form and results in the WSL.
