The conversation took place between July and August of 2020, shortly after Madrid had won the La Liga title, at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic that ravaged the world.

The Los Blancos came out of the mid-season break in excellent form and bullied their way to the title and Ramos was a huge part of that success story. Ramos, who was the captain of the team then proceeded to ask Rubiales to use his influence and help him win the Ballon d’Or .

“You know that I’ve never asked you for anything but if I want to do it today it’s because I think this has been a special year for the performances I’ve delivered,” Ramos has been recorded as saying to Rubiales.

“I would like you to help me in whatever way you can and use your connections at UEFA linked to the Ballon d’Or. I would be grateful to you all my life, not only for me but also because I think Spanish football deserves it very much.”

Rubiales responded by saying that he believes that Ramos deserves to win the Ballon d’Or and wished him well in the Champions League campaign. And he said, while winning the Ballon d’Or doesn’t depend on him, he is willing to help Ramos out in anyway that he can.

It should be noted that the Ballon d’Or award was suspended that year because of the pandemic and the player would go on to leave the Spanish side, joining PSG.

Since then, he has failed to hit that form since then, as he was mostly injured in his first season at the Parc des Princes.

Meanwhile…

Barcelona have rejected the opportunity to sign Juventus midfielder, Arthur Melo as the club feel that they’ve enough players in their squad already and even if they’re to seek for a replacement for Frenkie De Jong, the club would prefer Carlos Soler or Bernardo Silva.

Melo joined Juventus from Barcelona in 2020, as part of a swap deal, with Miralem Pjanic going the other way. Both players have failed to impress at their respective clubs.

Barcelona have already secured the signing of Franck Kessie, while also having Busquet, Pedri, Nico Gonzalez and Gavi in their squad. The player was offered by his agent to the Blaugrana after being told that he’s no longer needed by Juventus.
