Who would have believed that Monday, June 28th of 2021, would be one of the best days of knockout football in the history of the European Championship. Spain knocked out Croatia in extra time while France were unfortunately eliminated by Switzerland on penalties
France came out all guns blazing at the beginning of the second half, Deschamps replaced Lenglet with forward Kingsley Coman, this tactical substitution changed the complexity of the game. However, Les Bleus defense remained poor, the Swiss forward were consistently giving the French defender problems.
Karim Benzema scored equaliser after Switzerland missed a penalty, it wasn’t long before Benzema scored again after Griezmann’s shot was blocked by of Goalkeeper Jan Sommer, the world champions eventually lost during penalty shootout.
