Written by Olugbenga Olonade

Ivory Coast and AC Milan midfielder, Franck Kessie is set to be sidelined with injury for up to one month according to Sky Italia.

The report states that Kessie felt some pain after yesterday’s training with the Rossoneri and underwent some tests which showed that he sustained a muscular lesion.

The injury could see him miss Milan’s Serie A opener against Sampdoria as well as the Cagliari and the Lazio games, but should see him return for the huge clash against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.

More Details

It always seemed like an injury was inevitable for the Cote d’Ivoire midfielder following his exploits for Milan last season which saw him feature in 37 of the club’s 38 Serie A games – 36 as a starter – in addition to eight games in the Europa League, excluding qualifiers and the Coppa Italia games.

Kessie went on to feature for his country at the Tokyo Olympic games before joining his Milan team mates in camp to begin preparation for the new season.

Milan should be able to count on the availability of Ismael Bennacer, Sandro Tonali, Rade Krunic and Tommaso Pobega in the absence of Kessie but the future of the latter two seem far away from Milan amidst reports that Krunic could leave the club permanently while Pobega could be sent out on loan to continue his development.

In that case, the Rossoneri could bring in another midfielder to prevent the team from being short-handed in midfield as the season progresses.

Milan could make a new attempt for CSKA Moscow’s attacking midfielder, Nikola Vlasic according to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com.

Both clubs had been in contact for the transfer of the 23-year-old Croatian, but Milan were turned off by the demands of the Russian club, which is believed to be around €25-30 million.

Longo maintains that the negotiations remain difficult, but Milan hope that the Russian club can show an opening as the player has made it clear that he would like to leave the club.
