Ghana legend and all time scorer, Asamoah Gyan has hinted he’s not done playing football yet but could call it quit if he’s unable to regain his form.
More Details…
The former Sunderland attacker who is currently playing for Legon Cities FC of Ghana endured a difficult 2020/21 season making just 6 appearances without registering a goal.
Many have speculated that Gyan will hang up his boots now that the Ghana Premier League is in recess after the completion of the delayed 20-21 campaign, but the former Black Stars captain says he is still hungry to play.

As quoted by Football Ghana during an interview session on Kessben FM, Gyan disclosed he is not thinking about retirement at the moment and has promised to work on his weight in order to regain his form but will call it a quit if he is unable to regain his form.
“I have not retired from football. There were some injuries last season, but I am not done playing football. I can wake up one day and announce my retirement from football but at the moment, I am active.
“People will criticize me but I am only hoping to get back to my normal form and weight but if I am not able to regain my form, then I will call it off. But at the moment, I am working on myself to lose my weight.
“I returned to Legon Cities and you could clearly see that things did not go as planned because I have putting on weight but I am giving myself another season and I trust I will be back to my form. And if I am on my form, I don’t think I will be overlooked. But for retirement, not now.”

Reacting to the 2021 AFCON draw in Cameroon where the Black Stars of Ghana were drawn Group C alongside Morocco, Gabon and Comoros, Gyan is confident Ghana will reach the knockout stages. This he said immediately after the draws were held in Cameroon.
“I think it’s a tricky group, Morocco is out there, they conceded just one goal. Ghana is there and I will be rooting for my country.
“We are up there but we don’t know what to will happen. We have to stay focus and make sure we qualify from the group stage then think about winning the cup.”
Although Asamoah Gyan does not appear to be in the squad of the Black Stars for the world cup qualifiers in September, he is keen on earning a place in the squad for next year’s AFCON.

Gyan who joined the likes of likes Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba and Raber Majer to conduct the draw for the tournament believes the team needs to stay focused and by doing so will make it out of the group stages.
“Statistically, we’re up there but we don’t know what’s going to happen. We just have to stay focus and do what we can do to qualify from this group.”
The 2021 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for Cameroon from Sunday, January 9 to Sunday, February 6, 2022.
