The legendary player from Juventus moved to Major League Soccer in July 2022 with the intention of helping the Black and Gold win their first MLS Cup that same year. But in the end, at Lower.com Field, his club was unable to stage a comeback against Columbus Crew, despite a heroic attempt.

With his contract expiring at the end of the year and more than 800 appearances for both club and country, the 39-year-old acknowledged that it might be time for him to hang up his boots.

“It could be my last game,” a disappointed Chiellini said after MLS Cup.

Alongside Jesus Murillo, he made 20 league appearances (17 starts) in 2023, scoring one goal and dishing out two assists to help the LAFC defense, which allowed just 39 goals (tied for fourth-best in MLS) to be conceded.

But in his roughly one and a half seasons with the Western Conference team, he noted, he was glad to have contributed to the league’s expansion.

Inter Miami CF’s head coach, Gerardo “Tata” Martino, has declared that the Club is once again interested in bringing in former teammate Luis Suárez during the upcoming winter transfer window.

Martino stated that the team is still interested in signing the 36-year-old Uruguayan during a press conference the day before Miami’s final MLS home game, which ended in a 2-2 draw with Charlotte FC.
