Glimpse Of Hope For Barcelona Amidst LaLiga’s 1:1 Salary Rule Woes
Written by Oluwadamilola Olaleye
Despite what seemingly looks like a financial breakthrough with the £100 million Spotify Camp Nou VIP seat sale, Barcelona are desperate to return back to LaLiga 1:1 salary rule ahead of next season with Joan Garcia, Ronny Bardghji yet to be registered. The Catalan giant have been offered a temporary escape route with Ter Stegen’s impending surgery set to free up space although he’s yet to decide on the surgery amidst talks of a potential summer exit.
More Details
Barcelona are ready to dump club captain Marc Ter Stegen with the arrival of Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczęsny renewal despite the German’s wish to continue at the club. This disparity between both parties remains a key transfer subject but with the development on his injury, the reigning LaLiga champions has advised him to go for surgery, which means he would be out of action for up to four months.
The 33-year-old who missed a significant portion of last season after undergoing knee surgery is facing a persistent back issue that would rule him out for the beginning of the season. His situation nonetheless remains one that will be beneficial to the club in resolving their players registration hiccup.

Marc-André ter Stegen may play a crucial role in Barcelona’s efforts to register goalkeeper new recruit Garcia this week. The German international is expected to make a decision in the coming days on whether to undergo surgery for a recurring back problem as per Mundo Deportivo.
Should he opt for the procedure, Barcelona would be able to temporarily de-register him from their squad. This move would free up enough salary space, specifically 80% of his wages for the club to register Garcia.

It would also create the financial flexibility needed to re-register Wojciech Szczęsny, who recently signed a new contract with the La Liga champions and is awaiting formal inclusion in the squad.
Barcelona are on the verge of securing their third signing of the summer in Marcus Rashford, but notably, neither of their first two signings has yet been registered as a first-team player. Ronny Bardghji is expected to be listed with Barça Atlètic for the 2025–26 season, a designation that still permits him to feature under Hansi Flick when needed.
If he proceeds with the operation, he would be sidelined for approximately four months, officially qualifying as a long-term injury. This would enable Barcelona to apply a La Liga rule allowing 80% of the sidelined player’s salary to be reallocated for new registrations. The club used this mechanism last season when Andreas Christensen had surgery, which paved the way for Dani Olmo to be successfully registered.
