Defending champions, Spain edged the United States of America (USA) 1-0 in their first match at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Cali, Colombia.

An early goal from Olaya Enrique propelled the young La Rojas to a slim win over their counterparts from North America.

Lucia Corrales set Enrique up for the winning goal of the match as early as the eighth minute of play.



The win was not enough to lift Spain to the top of Group C after Paraguay moved ahead of them on superior goal difference.

Elsewhere, Paraguay defeated Morocco 2-0 in an action packed encounter which saw the North Africans hitting the cross bar before the opener.

Fatima Acosta scored two goals in either half to help the South Americans seal victory.

She scored the first goal in the 37th minute before making it two in the 56th minute from the penalty spot.

USA and Morocco will attempt to pick their first win and point after opening match losses to Spain and Paraguay respectively.
