Head coach Ben Olsen of Houston Dynamo FC has signed a contract extension that runs through the 2026 Major League Soccer season, the team announced on Thursday.
More Details
Olsen is in his second season with the team after a breakthrough first year that saw the Dynamo win the US Open Cup in 2023, earning a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup this year, and make their first appearance in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs since 2017.
“As our head coach, Ben has been instrumental in leading our club’s resurgence and building a foundation for continued success,” Houston general manager Pat Onstad said in a press release.
“Ben has led the on-field turnaround of the team over the past 12 months, including a return to the MLS Cup Playoffs and international competition, lifting another US Open Cup and knocking out two major Liga MX teams from Leagues Cup.
“He has also helped rebuild the identity of our club, implementing an attractive style of play, leading a resilient group of players and nurturing young talent from around the world. I am personally excited to continue my collaboration with Ben in our pursuit of continued success at the club.”
“I would like to thank Ted Segal, Pat Onstad and the Houston Dynamo staff and players for their continued support,” Olsen said. “I was attracted to the job because of the enormous potential of both the club and the city. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the past 12 months and am energized to continue raising the standards of our club to ensure the city of Houston is proud of their team.”
Olsen and the Dynamo’s next game is an all-Texas match at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday night against Austin FC.

MLS announced yesterday that they will be implementing 3 new “competition initiatives” this weekend.
The first, an off-field treatment rule that states that an injured player who is down for more than 15 seconds must then stay off the field for a minimum of two minutes to receive treatment.
The second, timed substitutions. Subs will have 10 seconds to get off the field and if they fail to do so in the allotted time, the incoming player must wait 60 seconds, while their team plays a man down. And finally, In-stadium VAR announcements meaning the referee will announce and explain all VAR decisions on the field.
