The Catalans would be facing a stern test as they face Athletic Bilbao in this week’s La Liga match. Bilbao is one of the teams that have defeated the Blaugrana in 2022, dumping them out of the Copa Del Rey and this could present a good opportunity for a revenge.

The Blaugrana will go into this fixture with renewed confidence as the team seem to be in a good form and this has been helped by the players that joined during the January transfer window.

Adama Traore, Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have formed a formidable front line for the club since their arrival. The three forwards have contributed 14 goals and assists since joining as the club have enjoyed a six-game unbeaten run and their impact has been hailed by Xavi during the pre-match conference.

“I don’t know what would have happened if they didn’t come,” he said. “It would have been more difficult, that’s clear.” Xavi saved special praise of Aubameyang and Ferran Torres, calling the latter a ‘spectacular player’.

“Aubameyang hasn’t surprised me because he has had a goal all his career,” he continued. “He has surprised me at work. Adama has surprised me in decision-making, how he has matured.

“Ferran seems to me to be a footballer of another level. I asked for him. He is a spectacular player. He is a world-class footballer. Perhaps he is the one that has surprised me the most. I already expected it, but I can confirm it. He is a marvel of soccer player.” Xavi further added.

The trio of Memphis Depay, Clement Lenglet and Dani Alves were included in the team list released for the match and with the race for top four place getting tough, the Catalans need all the help they can get.

While Depay and Lenglet missed the victory over Napoli due to injury, Alves was missing because he was left out of the list of players that were registered for the club in the Europa League. The Brazilian defender is in line to start against Bilbao while Depay and Lenglet are more likely to start from the bench.
