Written by Olaleye Oluwadamilola

Paris Saint Germain head coach, Christophe Galtier has all but confirmed the departure of Lionel Messi at the end of the current season following his admission in the press conference earlier today ahead of the last game of the season against Clermont Foot 63.

More Details

Lionel Messi will end his two year stint with French capital club PSG at the end of his current contract which will expire in June thereby making him a free agent and will be allowed to speak to other clubs after failing to sign an extension offered by the club beyond his current deal, it has been confirmed unless the player makes a last ditch U-turn which looks very unlikely.

The 2022 Qatar World Cup winner will play his last game for the club on Saturday against Clermont Foot 63 at the Parc Des Princes home ground where the team will be officially presented the Ligue 1 title.

PSG manager Christophe Galtier all but confirmed in a press conference this afternoon ahead of their home game against Clermont Foot 63 that the World Cup winner will depart, with Inter Miami, old club Barcelona and Saudi Arabia giant A Hilal are part of the many potential destinations as rumors of claimed last month that Messi had been offered a contract worth £522million from Al-Hilal, despite the concerns of his wife Antonela Roccuzzo.

Messi‘s father, Jorge, was quick to shut down reports that a decision had been made about his son’s club for next season.

“I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. This year, he was an important part of the team, always available during training sessions. I think there have been some remarks and criticisms that are not at all justified.”

“When you’re 35 years old and you’ve got statistics like that in a season with a World Cup in the middle, he’s always been at the service of the team and the way the game is played.”

Meanwhile

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico is reportedly in a ‘stable condition’ but remains in intensive care after suffering serious head injuries in a horse riding accident.

Rico who was transported by helicopter to the Virgen del Rocio University Hospital in Seville issued an update on his condition on Thursday after the 29-year-old suffered a serious head injury where he was making a horseback pilgrimage journey to Huelva, near his home city of Seville in Spain where he was knocked off the animal.

Club manager Christophe Galtier in his press conference this afternoon admitted that the team and everyone in the club are in a tough period, – “It’s a difficult time, but we have to be positive and send as much positive energy as we can to Sergio, his family and his loved ones.”

“We’re going through a tough time, but we have to be positive and give Sergio as much energy as we can. He is a boy who is fighting. It’s an incredibly difficult week but you have to believe.”

“It was hard to go from celebrating on Saturday night after winning the title in Strasbourg to hearing the terrible news on Sunday morning. Everyone is very affected. All the time we spend off the pitch, we’re thinking about Sergio.”

“So as soon as we’re out on the pitch, we try to help the players get rid of their grief. We try to bring a bit of fun into the session and I notice that the players take that moment as a breath of fresh air.”

“On Saturday, there will obviously be a strong message of support for Sergio from the players, the club and our supporters,” he stated.
