Chelsea’s flop Mykhailo Mudryk attended Tuesday night’s match between Arsenal and his old team, Shakhtar Donetsk, at the Emirates Stadium.

More Details

Mudryk played for Shakhtar, a Ukrainian team, for seven years before making the incredible move to Chelsea in 2023.

Arsenal also showed a lot of interest in the highly regarded winger, who was reportedly eager to transfer to north London before Chelsea snatched the deal and brought him to Stamford Bridge.

Following Chelsea’s agreement to pay 70 million euros plus an additional 30 million in bonuses, Mudryk signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues. When the 23-year-old arrived in England, he became one of the most expensive acquisitions in Premier League history, but he has failed to live up to the hype, suffering a wretched spell in west London.

Mudryk has only scored five Premier League goals since his big-money move, and he has started just one league game this season under new manager Enzo Maresca. Mudryk’s fall has been so severe that he was left out of Chelsea’s squad for Sunday’s game against Liverpool at Anfield.

Mudryk used his Tuesday off to go to Arsenal’s Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk, as the Blues will play their next game on Thursday against rivals Panathinaikos of the Europa Conference League.

Chelsea supporters quickly responded to Mudryk’s arrival at the Emirates, with some even arguing that he should “stay there” after his disappointing stint at Stamford Bridge. The Amazon Prime cameras captured him entering his seat shortly before kickoff.

‘I do think under Mikel Arteta’s guidance that players would look better,’ Bent told talkSPORT. ‘A prime example – Mudryk.

‘If he had come to Arsenal, he would look better than he does now. Now he’s way off it, he’s completely off it. He’s at a club where players have bypassed him, there’s no clear structure for him. If he goes to Arsenal with a plan that’s clear, that’s half the battle.

‘But with Timo Werner, he’s got all the pace in the world but he doesn’t utilise it, runs offside too often, when he uses his pace to get into good opportunities he doesn’t take those opportunities as we saw against Manchester United.

‘Whereas Kai Havertz’s brain, he hasn’t got as much pace as Timo Werner but it’s more than enough in terms of being effective than hat Timo Werner is.’
