One of the players that was sold is Dutch midfielder, Tijjani Reijnders who moved to the English Premier League and for the player, he has now reflected on his decision to leave the Serie A for the EPL in the summer, insisting the switch represented a golden opportunity to take “a step forward” in his career.

He spent two seasons at San Siro before joining Pep Guardiola’s side and he has now admitted that although he still holds affection for Milan, City’s recent dominance and resources made the move impossible to turn down and he has continued his fine form with his new club.

Reijnders signed for the Cityzens for a reported figure of around €70m which could potentially reach €75m, seeing the Rossoneri turn a huge profit on a player who arrived for just €20m in 2023 and speaking to MilanNews, Reijnders said about his transfer:

“If we look at the last few years of the two clubs I think it’s a step forward from every perspective. Just look at the number of trophies they’ve lifted in recent years. Then here there’s a great coach and you only have to look at the players the club has.” He continued.

“I have many feelings for Milan but certain trains only pass once,” he concluded.
Just like with his previous clubs, the former AZ Alkmaar star has been a regular starter for City this season, adapting quickly into Guardiola’s side and offering an extra dimension to the coach’s star-studded midfield.

In a related development, Milan legend, Alessandro Costacurta has hailed Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot after the Rossoneri’s win against Napoli, claiming the pair have brought a new level of leadership to the team as he spoke to Sky Sport in the aftermath of the 2-1 win.

Costacurta said: “I think there is a lot of leadership now, more than ever before. We are talking about two players of international level.” Modric signed on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Real Madrid expired. The 40-year-old has already calmed concerns about his age with a strong start to the season.

As for Rabiot, he joined from French club, Marseille in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, reuniting with Massimiliano Allegri as the former Juventus man was suspended after a dressing room bust-up with Jonathan Rowe, who also left Marseille in the summer for Serie A – joining Bologna.

“This is a team of 11 players who all run and chase the opponent,” Costacurta said. “Gimenez is always working, not only going deep but helping his teammates too. The team moves well as one.” Costacurta concluded on how the leadership dynamics at the club have changed over the last twelve months.

“The leaders from last year have changed. This season, two more arrived, who are slightly better in terms of leadership.” He further added. There will be another stern test for the Diavoli in their next game as they travel to Turin to face Juventus at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday.
