IFFHS Names Alexia Putellas As Women’s World Player Of The Year

FC Barcelona midfielder, Alexia Putellas has been named the 2021 International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Women’s World Best Player of the Year.

The Spanish player had an overwhelming number of 135 votes ahead of Chelsea and Australia’s Samantha Kerr (35 votes), and North Carolina Courage’s Samantha Mewis (30 votes).
Dzenifer Marozsan, Pernille Harder, Wendie Renard, Megan Rapinoe, Marta, and Caroline Hansen made the top ten list.
Alexia scored 18 league goals in 31 games last season and two goals in nine UEFA Women’s Champions League games.
She has scored nine goals in ten league games this season, and four goals in three UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Alexia Putellas during the last women’s categories of UEFA Awards clinched the midfielder and player of the season award.
She is also in contention for the Balon D’or and FIFA Best Awards.

Pedri and Lieke Martens will travel from Barcelona.
The players have been nominated for the Balon D’or after a treble-winning 2020/2021 season where the Catalan side won the league, Cup, and UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies.
The Balon D’or will take place on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the Theatre du Chatelet, Paris, France.
