18-year-old Coco Gauff and 21-year-old Iga Swiatek

The 21-year-old ties Venus Williams’ 35 winning streak for the longest streak since 2000 and third-longest since 1990 after Saturday’s win.

The Contest

Swiatek did not waste time to win the opening set of the Roland Garros final 6-1 in 32 minutes against a nervous, erratic Coco Gauff.

The contest to an extent could be regarded as one sided as Gauff had a uncomfortable start which saw her fall 0-3.

In 20 minutes time, Iga was 4-0 against the 18-year-old, but Coco got on board by holding her serve for 1-4.

But that was the much the Floridan could get in the set as the Pole broke to win 6-1

However, the 18-year-old broke right out of the gate in the second set after Swiatek went errant, hitting 4 unforced errors to give up a break at 30. Coco led 1-0.

Gauff continued to clean things up on her side as she led 2-0.

But Swiatek got the break back after holding serve to get on the board in the second set. Swiatek broke at 15 with Gauff double-faults at 15-30 giving her two break points but the World No.1 just needed one to level it up.

Swiatek was on the ascendency in no time leading 5-2 before Gauff got one point back to put the score at 5-3.

She served to win the contest.
