Ighalo On Full Duty In Al-Shabab’s Draw; Joe Aribo Set For AFCON Debut

Speculations in recent days about Odion Jude Ighalo joining the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Cameroon for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will definitely be put to bed now after the Al-Shabab talisman was paraded for the entire duration in his club’s 1-1 home draw versus Abha in the Saudi Arabia Pro League match day 16 played on Saturday.

Ighalo was drafted into the final 28-man list to prosecute the 33rd edition of the AFCON which is dey to kick-off today Sunday 9th of January in Cameroon but decision didn’t go well with his club who held on to FIFA rule book to prevent their highest scorer from leaving the shores of Saudi Arabia at a point when they’re one of the title challengers.

Firstly, it was rumored that he has a clause in his contract stating that he is no longer an international player after his retirement from the Nigeria national team back in 2019 and second being is thy FIFA rule which states that associations must notify clubs of invited players at least fifteen days before the start of a tournament, which Nigeria Football Federation did not meet up with.
Odion Ighalo finished the highest goalscorer at the 2019 edition of the AFCON but will not be able to fulfill the dream of retaining the same award in Cameroon.
