World Cup winner Christophe Duggarry has revealed that he’s happy that Neymar will be out for the rest of the season after diagnosis revealed that he will have to get a surgery in Doha stating that his absence will give balance to PSG for the remainder of the campaign.

More Details

The Brazilian suffered an horrible injury to his ankle in the Parc de Princes seven goal thriller against Lille last month as he was replaced before half time after collision with Paulo Fonseca’s midfielder.

As revealed by the club doctors and communicated on their official website, Neymar will be out for up to three or four months ruling him out of any football action for the 2022-2023 campaign.

Duggarry explained that Christophe Galtier need not worry or panic that the winger is out as it will provide balance and stability to the team ahead of the crucial UCL second leg game against Bayern Munich.

He described it as an ‘amazing stroke of luck’ for Paris Saint-Germain in a scathing assessment of the Brazilian winger.

Dugarry, who won the World Cup with France in 1998, sensationally celebrated the Brazilian’s injury, insisting the French champions were better off without their record signing.

Forced to alter his team without Neymar, PSG boss Christophe Galtier lined up with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in a 3-5-2 formation against Ligue 1 title rivals Marseille and subsequently cruised to a confident 3-0 victory.

The French champions went on to beat Nantes 4-2 on Saturday, with both Mbappe and Messi finding the scoresheet again.

Paris Saint-Germain should have operated on Neymar’s ankle sooner but did nothing due to him being their record signing, according to reports in France.

And as reported by French outlet L’Equipe, PSG discovered an issue with Neymar’s ankle in his medical examination when they signed him in summer 2017 but decided not to operate immediately.

They add ‘many orthopaedic specialists’ think that decision has led to the string of problems he has had with his ankle since then.

Neymar, 31, twisted his right ankle on February 19 against Lille, suffering ligament damage less than three months after the injury he picked up with Brazil against Serbia at the Qatar World Cup in November.

The knock is similar to the problems which have heavily affected his time at the Parc des Princes, particularly his first two seasons there.

Given his injury history and his inability to recover for the Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Bayern Munich in Germany on Wednesday, the club have made the decision to operate, with the procedure set for later this week.

Impressed by PSG’s new-look line-up without the Brazilian, Dugarry told RMC Sport: “I’m happy for PSG that Neymar is injured. I think this is an incredible opportunity, an amazing stroke of luck for Christophe Galtier.”

“The team is much more balanced with five defenders, three midfielders and Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi up front.”

Dugarry added: “I can’t bear to see him anymore, I can’t stand him anymore.”

“I find him insufferable in his dribbling and with that attitude. I don’t want to see him on the field anymore, I’m tired.”

However, stretched thin in the absence of Neymar, Galtier’s squad lacks depth in attacking areas, with only 20-year-old striker Hugo Ekitike to cover for Messi or Mbappe should either superstar pick up an injury.
