There was a recent statement from Lazio president, Claudio Lotito where he claimed that a certain club in the Serie A was being allowed to play and compete in the league despite being on thee verge of bankruptcy and though, he didn’t name Inter, it was obvious which club he is referring to.

Now, the president of the Nerazzurri has replied to these claims as he talked about various issues surrounding the club. Giuseppe Marotta, who was appointed as president when Oaktree took over from Suning has admitted that Inter had a stroke of luck in appointing Simone Inzaghi at just the right time.

He highlighted how their coaching position became vacant during a brief window when the manager was still open to leaving Lazio. Inter appointed their current head coach in 2021, just weeks after being crowned champions under Antonio Conte, who chose to part ways with the club due to concerns over the need to raise funds by selling key players.

The club acted swiftly, seizing the opportunity to bring in Inzaghi before he renewed his contract with Lazio, the club that had given him his managerial debut five years earlier. “With Inzaghi, we had that stroke of luck, favourable circumstances allowing us to sign him at just the right time,” Marotta said.

“Not everyone remembers, but when Conte left, there weren’t many options available on the market: he was about to sign with Lazio, and luckily, he hadn’t yet. “We were fortunate to find a good coach, someone who has improved over the years and is still young. He has shown that he possesses all the specific knowledge required in football.”

“Not just in terms of tactics, but also in managing people. That’s a very difficult skill nowadays.” The financial concerns that drove Conte away from San Siro at the time persisted in the seasons that followed, with many suggesting that Inter were forced to limit their investments as they hovered on the brink of bankruptcy.

“Bankrupt? That’s an absurd word—it simply doesn’t exist in our case,” Marotta claimed. “People say a lot of things about us. With a touch of irony, I’d say it’s part of that culture of envy. Those who win often attract that kind of misguided narrative. We have never risked bankruptcy. We are a club with financial exposure.”

“Yes, we have a bond, but we manage it extremely well. We have no debts to suppliers or banks—otherwise, we wouldn’t even be allowed to register. There are licenses that require compliance with specific financial and economic parameters. We have no outstanding payments, we’re paying off our tax debt.”

“There’s this common misconception that confuses difficulties above us with the actual management of the club.” He continued. Perhaps, it is the exit of Inzaghi that Lotito is still angry about, which is why he has never failed to attack the club at any given opportunity over the years since that faithful transfer window when they lost their manager to Inter.

Marotta also addressed claims about his alleged influence over Milan’s decision to drop their pursuit of Fabio Paratici, dismissing them as an urban legend. The Rossoneri’s sudden backtrack sparked questions and speculation, including claims of ‘strong pressure at a federal level’ that may have prompted them to end their pursuit of Paratici.

Among the rumours was also a possible interference from Marotta himself, who expressed surprise at such speculation. “This is another Milanese urban legend,” Marotta said during an event called Il Foglio a San Siro. “I don’t know if there’s such a thing as a white knight,” (a metaphor often used in finance).

“How could it be imagined that I could have influenced the owner, the president, or the CEO of Milan? These are all people with expertise who don’t wait for my suggestions. “Even if I wanted to, what could I have done? Personally, if Paratici were to become Milan’s sporting director, I would be even happier, because it would give me more motivation, and I’d be even more p***ed off.”

Marotta’s words also hint at his relationship with Paratici, which is said to have deteriorated during the final season of their collaboration at Juventus — reportedly one of the reasons why the current Inter vice president chose to leave the club.

In a related development, the current Serie A leaders have unveiled a new ‘special’ away kit inspired by Italian Moto GP legend and Nerazzurri fan Valentino Rossi. Inter have just unveiled a new away kit that the players will wear on Saturday, April 12, in a home Serie A match against Cagliari.

It’s a special away kit inspired by Italian Moto GP legend Valentino Rossi, who is also a long-time Nerazzurri supporter. Inter explained that their “special jersey” was “created to celebrate Valentino’s 46th birthday and his love for Inter.

”It’s a redesigned version of Inter’s 2024-25 away kit, including a yellow stripe in the centre of the jersey alongside Valentino’s famous symbols, the sun and moon. “The special jersey is an iconic item for fans of both Valentino Rossi and Inter – a collector’s piece that combines the club’s tradition and history with the thrill of racing,” the club said.

“It will be a huge honour to see the players of my team wearing this shirt created with Nike and Inter,” said Valentino Rossi, a seven-time Moto GP winner. “It’s a dream come true as it brings together my passion for motorcycling and my favourite team. It’s also a display of love for the club that has always made me feel at home.” He further added.
