Inter Is Planning A Major Overhauling Of Their Backline In The Next Summer Transfer Window
Written By Onyeka Daniel
There was a recent report about the intentions of Inter Milan to sign at least one defender, either in the upcoming January transfer window, or later on in the next summer transfer window as they look to rejig their aging defence, but it’s now looking like it would be a larger operation.
More Details
They want to replace some older players in their backline, starting with their goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, even if they already Josep Martinez within the club as his immediate competitor and probably his replacement, but the management have other names lined up for signing.

The idea is to have two reliable goalkeeper and they’ve now set their sight on a number of targets, starting with Roma’s Mile Svilar. The former Anderlecht and Benfica goalkeeper has become one of the best stoppers in Serie A over the past few years with the Giallorossi.
Furthermore, they’re ready to go head-to-head with their city rivals, AC in the race to sign Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu while also having Atalanta ace Marco Carnessechi as an option and the same goes for highly-rated Cagliari star Elia Caprie, who’s enjoying a superb start to the season.
As for the defense, either one of Francesco Acerbi or Stefan de Vrij is expected to leave at the end of the current season or even both and replacement would be required while the jury is still out on Mateo Darmian who has really struggled with injuries recently.
In addition, there could be another forced change in January as Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly considering a winter bid for Yann Bisseck, according to a report from Frankfurter Neue Presse and the Beneamata would naturally sign a direct replacement too.
The German Bundesliga side are banking on the player’s wish to feature in next summer’s FIFA World Cup to force a move as he has tumbled down the pecking order since Cristian Chivu replaced Simone Inzaghi as Inter’s head coach and the departure of Benjamin Pavard.
Indeed, the 24-year-old has only made one Serie A appearance this season, accumulating a total of 157 minutes in all competitions as Chivu seems to prefer summer signing, Manuel Akanji and this has seen him lose his place on the national team after a recent call up.
Therefore, Germany gaffer Julian Nagelsmann omitted him from his squad for October’s international fixtures but the former Aarhus center-back is eager to regain Nagelsmann’s trust in the World Cup year, hence, he would likely accept a foreign proposal, especially if he can get regular first-team football.

Though Eintracht Frankfurt could meet those requirements, the Germans can hardly match Inter’s substantial €40m asking price. Furthermore, the former Serie A champions have reportedly opened talks with the representatives of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
This is according to a separate report from Sky Sport on the English centre-back who was very close join EPL champions, Liverpool in the summer but after the move failed, they decided to go for young Italian defender, Giovanni Leoni instead, beating Inter to his signing from Parma.
As for Guehi, he has entered the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and he has no intention of penning a new deal after the Eagles blocked his transfer to Anfield in the summer. Despite the Reds’ ongoing interest in the 25-year-old, Inter are keen to lure him to Serie A.

Therefore, they’ve already established contact with the player’s entourage to discuss a potential summer deal. There’s no doubt that Guehi would be a massive coup for the club, but they must beat Liverpool to his signature even if they also have alternatives lined up too.
