Inter Make A Move For Their First Real Summer Signing As Marseille Reveal Their Plan For Correa

Written By Onyeka Daniel

After winning the Serie A title, Inter Milan are already making plans to defend their title and even do better for next season, as detailed by the club’s management in recent interviews, how they will reinforce the Simone Inzaghi’s team to compete on all fronts.

More Details

While they’ve secured the signings of Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski on a free transfer, plans are already underway for their first real signing, a player that they would spend some transfer fee on.

Multiple reports in Italy claim that the Nerazzurri are moving forward in the race for Brazilian keeper Bento who has given priority to the club as a long term replacement for Yann Sommer, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The report claims that the asking price for the Brazil international is €20m and the same sum is confirmed by a different report from Gazzetta dello Sport, while also claiming that the Brazilian is also keen on the move.

It further suggest that the Nerazzurri directors are ready to meet intermediaries for the Athletico Paranaense star and the Brazilian club’s directors to negotiate the financial side of the deal.

The 24-year-old has already spoken about Inter with Julio Cesar, a 2010 treble winner at the Stadio Meazza, who has now become an agent. Inter are aware that some Premier League clubs are also interested in Bento, but Chelsea are not believed to be among the suitors, which would definitely count in Inter’s favour.

This probably puts an an end to their reported interest in Monza goalkeeper and former youth player, Michel Di Gregorio, who is reportedly closer to joining Juventus as an understudy to Wojciech Szczesny.

Meanwhile…

Marseille President Pablo Longoria has indicated that the French side will only sign Inter forward Joaquin Correa on one condition.Longoria spoke to Gazzetta in an interview, where he addressed the Argentine’s future.Correa joined Marseille from Inter last summer on an initial loan deal.

However, the loan contains a potential obligation for Marseille to sign the 29-year-old on a permanent basis at the end of the season. Qualification for the Champions League next season would trigger that option. Marseille have no intention of signing the former Sevilla and Lazio player from Inter on a permanent basis.

The Argentine has not featured regularly for the Ligue 1 side this season. He has zero goals or assists in the league. If anything, Correa’s form with Marseille has been even worse than it was at Inter. He never really lived up to expectations across two seasons at the Nerazzurri.

So Marseille would undoubtedly be signing a player they don’t really want to if they do qualify for the Champions League. Marseille’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League via Ligue 1 are essentially nonexistent. On the other hand, the Europa League would present a real avenue to earn a place in next season’s edition of Europe’s top club competition.

Marseille face Atalanta in the semifinals of the Europa League. On the other side of the bracket are Bayer Leverkusen and Roma. Therefore, Marseille have a genuine chance of qualifying for the Champions League via that route.

The club’s President confirmed that regarding Correa’s future, “The purchase option from Inter will become mandatory if we qualify for the Champions League. ”Otherwise, it would appear very likely that Correa will return to Inter this summer when his loan expires.” He further added.
