Inter Miami are firmly in the playoff hunt, sitting in fourth place with 56 points. They are tied with New York City FC for third and trail second-place FC Cincinnati by only three points, though Miami has one additional game remaining compared to those teams.
Meanwhile, the New England Revolution are already eliminated from playoff contention this season (9-15-8, 35 points).
Despite this, they are looking to finish strong after a solid 2-0 win against Atlanta United last week. This match is a rematch of their July 9 meeting, which Miami won 2-1 at home thanks to two first-half goals from Lionel Messi.
Inter Miami suffered a season-worst defensive performance, conceding five goals in a 5-3 loss to the Chicago Fire on Tuesday. Even after Luis Suárez tied the game at 3, Miami allowed two more goals in the final minutes, and Lionel Messi did not record a goal or an assist.

“We made tactical decisions that didn’t work. That’s on me,” said Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano, whose team has faced criticism for its defensive deficiencies throughout this season. “Now it’s about focusing on what’s ahead, correcting mistakes and regaining our intensity.”
Leo Campana, a former Inter Miami player, is set to return to South Florida with his new team, the New England Revolution, this Saturday.
After three seasons with Miami, Campana joined New England this year and is coming off an injury and a goal scored in his last game against Atlanta—his seventh of the season. His teammates are excited about the opportunity to take on his former club, which is one of the league’s top contenders
