Inter Midfielder Looking For A January Exit Due To Lack Of Playing Time

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Inter Milan this season is one of the most complete teams in Italy with plenty of options in every department and while they’ve been largely lucky with injuries, the players that get injured have adequate replacement to take their place.

More Details

It is for this reason why there’s competition for a starting spot with summer signing, Davide Frattesi finding it hard to nail down a regular spot in the starting lineup despite his performance when called upon from the bench. But for Italian midfielder, Stefano Sensi, it’s hasn’t been easy as his injury struggles hasn’t helped his cause.

According to a report from Italy, the former Sassuolo man could reportedly leave the club in January, and three Serie A clubs are ready to pounce on the opportunity. The 28-year-old joined the Nerazzurri in 2019 but his time at Appiano Gentile has been marred by never-ending injury setbacks.

The midfielder spent 18 months on loan between Sampdoria and Monza before rejoining Inter in the summer. Nevertheless, the Italian finds himself at the very bottom of Simone Inzaghi’s pecking order. Nicolo Barella, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, Davide Frattesi, Kristjan Asllani and Davy Klaassen are all ahead of him in the hierarchy.

Between his injury problems and the coach’s tactical choices, Sensi only made two brief Serie A appearances this season and was left out of the team’s list for the UEFA Champions League. Hence the club are willing to let him leave in January in search of regular playing time elsewhere.

The 28-year-old’s contract with Inter expires at the end of the season. However, the club wouldn’t mind releasing him earlier if a suitor were to emerge. The Beneamata would be happy to rid themselves of the player’s wages for the remaining six months of his contract. The source adds that three Serie A clubs could be interested in the midfielder’s services.

The report claims that Genoa and Monza both enquired about the player’s availability, in addition to Cagliari, albeit more timidly. Inter may not look to immediately replace him in the winter, but they will definitely try to bring in at least one midfielder in the summer and they’re already looking at several options that will be available as a free agent.

The Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta has a reputation for poaching some of the best available free agents on the market, hence he’s reportedly monitoring several players who will likely become free agents by the end of the season. There’s Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski.

The negotiations between the Pole and the Partenopei have recently stalled, opening the door for Juventus and Inter, and he could be the ideal Sensi replacement in the team. His experience in the league will also be a added bonus as he helped Napoli win the Serie A title last season.

Tomas Soucek is another target for the midfield. The Czech has been a stalwart at West Ham United for several years but is now looking to embark on a new adventure. As the source tells it, Simone Inzaghi is an admirer of the 28-year-old, while Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio personally scouted on several occasions.

But the EPL club have an option to extend his contract by a year and another report has it that they already reached an agreement with him over a new contract that will be announced at the end of the season.

Meanwhile…

The last name on the list is Lille defender Tiago Djalo. The former AC Milan youngster was close to joining the Nerazzurri last season before sustaining a cruciate ligament injury. Nonetheless, the Italians are still keen on the 23-year-old’s services and could move as early as January to beat the competition for the defender’s services.

Djalo finds himself amid a transfer tug-of-war between Juventus and Inter as the defender approaches the end of his contract with Lille. The player had been showcasing excellent form for the French club before a long-term injury sidelined him for the past few months.

Djalo’s impressive performances have garnered significant attention from European scouts, and it appears he is set to leave Lille at the end of the term. While Juventus sees the 23-year-old centre-back as an ideal free agent to bolster their squad, Inter Milan has emerged as a strong contender for his signature.

According to a report from TuttoJuve, Inter has taken the lead in the race for Djalo’s signature and is diligently working to secure a pre-contract agreement with him in January. The Serie A giants have already signed the likes of Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu for free in recent years and both players have already shown good value despite the fact that the club didn’t pay any transfer fee for them.
