Written By Onyeka Daniel

Before the start of the season, Inter Milan were picked as the favorite to lift the 2023/24 Serie A title by most bookies and everyone within the club seem to share this sentiment too, with the team manager, Simone Inzaghi also acknowledging that winning the title is one his objectives for the season.

But they will have to deal with the likes of Napoli (the defending champions) AC Milan and possibly Juventus, who won’t have the commitment of European football to worry about. But according to Inter’s new signing, Marko Arnautovic, it is city rivals, AC Milan that will present the biggest challenge for the title.

The 34yrs old also identified the Scudetto title as the club’s main objective for the 2023/24 campaign after making his return to the club last week after 13 years of his original stint at the club. The Austrian spent the 2009/10 campaign with the Nerazzurri on loan from Twente.

Although he officially won the historic treble, he hardly featured in Jose Mourinho’s lineup. But after collecting experience all over Europe, he is now ready to make a new for himself at the club. Arnautovic made his second debut in last week’s 2-0 win over Monza. He came off the bench to provide a fabulous assist for Lautaro Martinez.

In a new interview, the veteran hitman reveals that the club’s main objective for the season is the Scudetto title and the second golden star that would come along. “Winning the first match was very important, I’m very happy to be back. When I entered San Siro, I felt strong emotions.” Arnautovic said.

“Our first objective is winning Scudetto, we will fight for the second star. “Another treble? Thirteen years ago, nobody believed in it at the beginning of the season, so you never know. But it’s not easy at all. “We have a lot to do. I can’t say at the beginning of the season where we’ll end up. But the treble would be a dream.” On another note, the former West Ham star insists that AC Milan remain Inter’s fiercest rivals on the pitch.

“Out main rivals will always be AC Milan. In Milano, we have the biggest derby in the world. In this transfer market they have strengthened their team but we are not afraid of anyone. “At Inter, you always have to win. It is important to fight for the second star. I want to help on and off the pitch. I didn’t set an objective for the number of goals to score, I never impose it on myself.

“I want to help the team with assists or goals, which is even better since a striker always wants to score.” The former Bologna forward also hailed his club captain Lautaro Martinez while calling everyone at Inter to support him. “Lautaro is very strong, he’s our captain. We have to help him. When the team is united you always enjoy a good season.

“The coach asks me to give everything in every game and work extremely hard in training. At Inter, I have an excellent relationship with everyone. Then, the results on the feld count. That’s where we should make the difference.” He further added.

Up next, the Nerazzurri will be facing Cagliari away from home in their second fixture of the season and Arnautovicc will be hoping to play his part to help the team grab all three points in that game.

Meanwhile…

Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has shed more light on Benjamin Pavard’s possible move to Inter, admitting the club ‘need a replacement’ before sanctioning his exit. The Nerazzurri have already agreed a deal in principle with the Bavarian giants, willing to pay around €32m total for the Frenchman, but nothing has been finalised yet as the summer transfer window enters its final week.

Bayern are refusing to sell Pavard until they find a replacement and Inter have reportedly given them a deadline of August 29, leaving things tense for the coming days. Speaking in a press conference, Tuchel discussed Pavard’s situation and why Bayern haven’t signed off on his sale to Inter.

“Pavard asked me for a transfer but the request came very late and this surprised me. Benjamin is very important, last year he played more than 80% of the matches. “We need a replacement who gives guarantees, we have to think about the interests of the club. His desire to leave is one part and then there is the contractual situation.

“He has to make sense for the club and there has to be a replacement.” The 27-year-old French right back is contracted to Bayern for another two years and has returned to the squad following his brief absence from training earlier this week. He was left on the bench for the Bavarian side’s season opener against Werder Bremer.

Several names have been linked with the Bavarians including Chelsea defender, Trevor Chalobah, Konrad Laimer (RB Leipzig) and Kiliann Sildillia of Freiburg. The 21-year-old is a versatile defender who primarily features at right-back. He also seems like the perfect fit but none of them is expected to come cheap.
