In the last two to three transfer windows, Saudi Arabian clubs have been making big waves, signing players from Europe to boost the standing of their league and they’ve been largely successful due to the fact that they offer huge money, in terms of transfer fee and salary to players.

More Details

They’ve successfully signed some big players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Ngolo Kante, but some players have rejected their overtures, preferring to remain in Europe and compete with some of the best players.

For Inter Star, Hakan Calhanoglu, he has reportedly rejected an offer worth €18m per season from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The Turkish midfielder is one of Simone Inzaghi’s key players, with seven goals and three assists in 17 Serie A appearances this term.

According to a report from Italy, Al Hilal have tempted the 29-year-old with a four-year contract worth €18m per season, but the Turkish international is unwilling to leave the Stadio Meazza in January. The same proposal will be valid at the end of the season, reports Gazzetta, but Calha had already refused to join the Saudi Pro League last summer.

The former Milan midfielder signed a contract extension with Inter in July 2023 and his current deal at the Stadio Meazza runs out in June 2027. Calhanoglu joined Inter on a free transfer from Milan in 2021 and has scored 20 goals in 116 appearances with the Nerazzurri.

Another Inter player, Alexis Sanchez also reportedly rejected the opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia in January, preferring to finish the season with the Nerazzurri before deciding on his future in the summer when his contract expires.

The president of Hungarian club, Ferencvaros, Gabor Kubatov has underlined coach Dejan Stankovic’s ambitions and his work in Hungary so far. Stankovic, who spent nine years of his playing career with the Nerazzurri from 2004 to 2013, become the head coach of the Hungarian club in September, taking on a new adventure after a difficult spell with Sampdoria last term.

The 45-year-old Serbian coach has done well in charge of Ferencvaros, guiding them to second in the Hungarian topflight and progressing to the next round of the Europa Conference League. He’s picked up 11 wins and seven draws in his first 21 games in the dugout.

Speaking to Fradi TV, Kubatov discussed his decision to appoint Stankovic and the coach’s ambitions. “He wants to become Inter‘s coach. For this reason, he has a lot to bring to the table and these ambitions lead him to want to win at all costs with the team. Furthermore, Dejan wanted to come to us.

“He said: ‘Mr President, give me this team’. It is no coincidence that we found an economic agreement in about 10 minutes. We are only at the beginning of the work, the true face of the team will show itself in the spring, but given the indications we haven’t made the wrong decision.” He further added.
