Inter Milan Revive Interest In Cagliari Utility Player, Looking At Several Options To Strengthen The Right Wing

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Currently, Inter Milan are looking like they’ve a complete squad with Simone Inzaghi still able to put out a strong lineup despite the various injuries suffered by some players and the gruesome fixture list. But that won’t stay the same for long as the club is expected to lose some players in the summer.

More Details

The likes of Davy Klaassen and Stefano Sensi will most likely move on, leaving the team a little light in the midfield, hence the club management is already at work to bring in reinforcement. Accordingly, the agent of Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez has confirmed that there are talks with Inter Milan for the player’s signature.

The 27-year-old’s representative Pablo Bentancur spoke to Uruguayn news outlet Crave Deportiva. Inter have already targeted former Boca Juniors midfielder Nandez in the past. There was a fairly lengthy transfer saga between the Nerazzurri and the Cagliari midfielder in the summer of 2021.

In the past, Nandez had showed that he was capable of playing at wingback. This had marked the Uruguayan out as a possible target to replace Achraf Hakimi. Replacing the Moroccan was one of Inter’s major priorities that summer. In the end, however, the Nerazzurri moved for Denzel Dumfries instead.

The Dutchman arrived from PSV to replace Hakimi. That ended Inter’s interest in Nandez at the time. The Uruguayan stayed at Cagliari. Nandez remained in Sardinia even following the Rossoblu’s relegation to Serie B. He helped them come straight back up last season, and has been a fixture in the starting eleven this season under Claudio Ranieri.

Recent reports have suggested that Inter could be ready to resume their interest in Nandez, however. There could even be a swap deal on the cards. Young Inter attacking midfielder Gaetano Oristanio is currently on loan at Cagliari. He could stay in Sardinia as part of a deal to bring Nandez to the Nerazzurri, the report suggests.

The player’s representative has confirmed that there are in fact some negotiations regarding a possible move. “We’re in ongoing negotiations with Inter,” Bentancur said. “Who want Nandez.” “His contract with Cagliari expires in June 2024, and we have already received several calls.” He said that “One was from Inter. Now the important thing is for him to fully recover. He played the most recent match with Uruguay with some muscle problems.”

“But he will certainly be a big name on the market in the next transfer window,” the agent said of Nandez. The fact that he can play any position in the midfield and also play on the right wing-back position makes him an important asset. While he will play as backup to Dumfries in that position, the club is also looking at several options for that role too.

Inter could move to sign Spezia-owned wingback Emil Holm next summer if Atalanta don’t make his loan move permanent according to a new report from Italy. At the moment, 23-year-old Swedish international is at Atalanta on a season-long loan. He joined Atalanta during the summer transfer window, following Spezia’s relegation to Serie B.

Atalanta have the option to make Holm’s deal permanent at the end of the campaign. They can do so by paying Spezia a fee of around €8 million. But there is little certainty that La Dea would be ready to trigger this option. That is because so far this season Holm has not featured regularly for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. Therefore, Holm could be back at Spezia next summer.

But there would be little chance of the 23-year-old remaining there for long. Inter had also shown an interest in signing Holm during the summer. Inter are considering their options for a possible new signing in the right wing as early as next summer. And if Atalanta do not sign Holm on a permanent basis, they could move.

If the Swede were to cost closer to €4-5 million, then the Nerazzurri would think about a move and they could even offer them some of young exciting players on loan too to sweeten the deal. But they are also looking at Atalanta wingback Hans Hateboer for that position. The Nerazzurri were reported to have sent scout to watch the player in Atalanta’s 2-1 loss to Napoli at the Gewiss stadium over the weekend.

Inter have certainly done their share of business with La Dea over the past several years. Currently, they’re interested in Italy defender, Scalvini, and that interest may expand to Hateboer too. But neither of that pair would come cheap.

But if Inter are to make a big investment next summer, they would consider targeting both. The 29-year-old is back from a knee injury that had kept him out for a number of months. His current contract with Atalanta runs out at the end of next June, so if the Dutchman does not agree a new deal, he could be available on a free transfer. 1
