While they are close to clinching their 20th League title, Inter Milan doesn’t seem to be resting on their laurels as the club is already hard at work, trying to reinforce the team for next season and beyond. The Nerazzurri have several areas of the squad that they need to strengthen and the attack is also among, with the club keen to go into next season with four or five forwards.

This largely depends on the demands of Simone Inzaghi. Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram are certain and expected summer signing, Mehdi Taremi should also join, but the club also want one more signing, on the premise that they won’t keep Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez.

According to a report from Sportitalia, the Nerazzurri have opened preliminary talks for Albert Gudmundsson, but Tuttosport claims the Iceland international dreams of a move to the Premier League with Tottenham interested. Inter have opened talks to sign Genoa star Gudmundsson in the summer, but negotiations are not at an advanced stage, according to the latest report from Sportitalia.
Sports journalist, Gianluigi Longari claimed that Inter directors called Genoa at the end of last week to understand whether a deal for the 26-year-old is practically feasible given that the Grifone’s price tag is pretty high. For this reason, the next Serie A champions will probably try to include one of their young footballers in a player-plus-cash swap deal.
But the conversation with Genoa hasn’t gone this far because the Nerazzurri still don’t know whether President Steven Zhang will extend a loan with Oaktree or will look to a different partner to keep control of the club beyond June. Gudmundsson has scored 13 Serie A goals in 30 appearances this season, which has attracted interest from many clubs around Europe, including Inter’s Serie A rivals Juventus and Premier League side Tottenham.
According to Tuttosport, the 26-year-old dreams of a move to the Premier League, but he’d still be happy to join the Nerazzurri who are on good terms with his agents. The report further explained how the club’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has an excellent rapport with the player’s agency (GG11), who even helped the club sign Tajon Buchanan in January.
Nevertheless, reaching an agreement with Genoa remains an uneasy task for the Serie A runaway leaders. Gudmundsson joined Genoa in January 2022 while his current contract runs until the summer of 2027, and his staying with Genoa for one more season shouldn’t be ruled out either, at least until January at least.

Meanwhile…
Inter continue to track Boca Juniors defender Nicolas Valentini as a summer move to Europe is looming on the horizon. The 23-year-old centre-back is a youth product of the Buenos Aires side. He has been a member of the senior squad since January 2023. However, the Argentine’s contract with the club will expire at the end of the year. The player has no plans to sign a renewal.
This contract standoff meant that Boca decided to drop the young defender from their most recent matchday squad. Yesterday, Valentini watched his teammates beat Godoy Cruz from the stands, with Edinson Cavani scoring the winner. So according to Il Corriere dello Sport, all signs suggest the player will leave the Argentine giant club in the summer to pursue a playing career in Europe.
The report also claimed that Inter are still monitoring the situation closely. Nevertheless, Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno remains the main option for the Nerazzurri at the back. But while the Granata are reportedly seeking €40 million to part ways with the Italy international, Valentini should be more affordable. After all, his contract will expire in December.

Therefore, Boca Juniors will either agree to sell the player on a cut price in the summer, or lose his services for free a few months later. He also has an Italian passport, which would facilitate his move to European football, and this season, he has made nine appearances for the club across all competitions. He scored a single goal in the domestic league.
The left-footed defender recently received a call-up to the senior Argentine national team. However, he has yet to make to international debut for the World Champions. Lionel Scaloni opted to keep him on the bench in last month’s friendly against Costa Rica, and a move to Europe will definitely help him break into the national team.
