Inter Set To Lose One Of Top Executive As Frattesi Gets Huge Price Tag
Written By Onyeka Daniel
While Inter Milan are still reeling from the disappointment of losing the Supercoppa Italiana trophy to their city rivals, AC Milan, there could be more bad news coming up for the club as the January transfer window is officially declared open. Multiple reports in Italy claim Roma have picked Inter’s Alessandro Antonello as their new CEO to replace Lina Souloukou.
More Details
Antonello will be the new Roma CEO, replacing Lina Souloukou, who resigned in September following Daniele De Rossi’s sacking. According to several sources from Italy, the Capital city club will announce Antonello’s appointment once the 59-year-old formally ends his agreement with the Nerazzurri. Antonello was spotted in Rome in recent weeks.

He has been working on Inter’s financial development in recent years, but also had a role in the new stadium plans. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Roma owners know Antonello well because the Inter director is part of the ECA Board and has been working closely with Dan Friedkin, the ECA Vice President. Roma have been considering several candidates in recent months.
Eventually, the Giallorossi picked Antonello as their new CEO, and an official announcement from the club is expected in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, for the Nerazzurri, they’ve slapped a substantial €50 million price tag on in-demand midfielder Davide Frattesi. According to Corriere della Sera, Inter’s asking price is nothing short of ‘provocative’.
It sole purpose is to help them fend off potential suitors. It’s no secret that Frattesi wants to halt his year-and-a-half association with the Nerazzurri. While Inter are willing to listen to offers for the player, who is said to be unsatisfied with his bench role, they’re unwilling to let him go for peanuts or even midway through the season.
Therefore, they’ve pinned a high price tag on him. Inter’s valuation of their second-string midfielder is a defense mechanism. Beppe Marotta has no intention of splashing the cash to replace Frattesi in January. As such, he has made the 25-year-old unaffordable for his biggest admirers, Roma. However, Tottenham could still spoil Inter’s plan to force Frattesi to stay until the end of the season.
Unlike the Giallorossi, Spurs and Newcastle United boast the financial strength required to pull off a deal of this magnitude. Now, it’s only a matter of priorities. Ange Postecoglou is desperate to bolster his squad amid a dreadful Premier League season, while Newcastle wants to replicate what they did and currently have with Sandro Tonali.
Frattesi’s place on his preference list remains uncertain. For the club, they’re still dealing with a number of injuries and could look to sign at least a defender this winter. They’ve also confirmed that Joaquin Correa suffered a strain to his left calf muscle, while reports in Italy claim Benjamin Pavard will return for the next Serie A match against Venezia.
Also, Hakan Calhanoglu hasn’t yet undergone medical tests. “Joaquin Correa underwent medical tests this morning at the Istituto Clinico Humanitas in Rozzano,” the Nerazzurri said on Wednesday. “The Nerazzurri forward has suffered a strain to his left calf muscle. His condition will be assessed day by day.” The Argentine striker is expected to miss the next match against Venezia.

But according to Calciomercato, Pavard’s return will boost Simone Inzaghi’s defensive options. The France International has been out of action since the end of November due to a hamstring muscle injury. The report also added that Francesco Acerbi will miss the Venezia game. The veteran Italian defender is expected to return to group training next week.

Finally, Yann Bisseck and Calhanoglu have not undergone medical tests yet. The Turkey international was replaced in the first half of Monday’s derby against Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana Final, but Bisseck is expected to recover for the Venezia game, and either him or De Vrij will start in the heart of the defense alongside Alessandro Bastoni and Pavard.
