Written By Onyeka Daniel
Today, Inter will continue to their quest to defend their Serie A title, playing their first home game of the 2024-25 season, where they will be facing Lecce at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium and for the Nerazzurri, they will most definitely be without their captain Lautaro Martinez for this encounter.
More Details
He started in last weekend’s Serie A opening day match away to Genoa. It had not necessarily initially been expected that Martinez would start that match. The 27-year-old was the last player in Inter’s squad to return to training over the summer. This was because he had been in action at the Copa America.
He helped his country win the trophy with the only goal in the final, so was only back in training at the start of August, even having to cut short his holidays to join the team at that time. For the Iranian international, he was part of Inter’s preseason training camp right from the start.

And the 32-year-old enjoyed a positive preseason in the first few friendlies. Taremi had initially looked to be the starter for the match against Genoa. However, he picked up a muscle problem that disrupted his progress. With Taremi not in condition to start last weekend, Martinez actually cut his post-Copa America vacation short by a couple of days.
This allowed the Argentine to have a couple extra days of preparation for the match against Genoa. And now, Martinez has picked up some muscle fatigue as he’s worked to regain his best condition. The problem is not a major one for the Nerazzurri captain.
But it is enough that coach Simone Inzaghi has no intention of risking Martinez, so he will not be part of the squad for this today’s match. Rather, Taremi will start in attack alongside Marcus Thuram. However, according to a report from Gazzetta, a return for Martinez is not far away.
They anticipates that the 27-year-old should be back in training within a couple of days. Therefore, there is little doubt that Martinez will be ready to be part of the squad for Friday’s match against Atalanta.
Another player that could get his first official start for the club is Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski after shaking off his injury concern that made him miss the first game. For the player, he has admitted that a move to Saudi Arabia was a “temptation” but says he’s competing “at the highest level” at Inter.
The 30-year-old gave his thoughts about his decision to join the Nerazzurri this summer on Eleven Sports Poland. Zielinski was one of the more high profile free transfer moves of the summer transfer window. And it was not too surprising to see him join Inter.
Due to their knack for picking up top quality players on a free transfer signings under the direction of club President and CEO Beppe Marotta. And Inter had already brought in big name midfielders from Serie A rivals via that route with notable names like Marcus Thuram, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
This summer wasn’t different as they took advantage of failing contract talks between Zielinski and Napoli last year, hence he left the Partenopei after eight years at the end of his deal. And he chose to join Inter, but they were not the only team to show an interest in signing him.
Last summer, the Pole had been among the targets for the Saudi Pro League as part of its campaign of lavish spending on big name players from European leagues. The player has admitted that “Anyone who’s received an offer like that knows that the figures can make your head spin.”

“But after a day or two, consulting with one’s loved ones, one considers what their goals are. What’s important in a particular moment. “For some people it might be money,” Zielinski said. “For others, it might be the desire to compete with the best players in the world.”
Zielinski clarified, “For me, the chance to prove myself in the Champions League has been my priority from the start. “Definitely in the first couple days I thought: ‘I’m going to go to Saudi Arabia,’” Zielinski said. “I’ll take my loved ones. We’ll live well.”
“However, that thought only lasted a couple days,” Zielinski said. “I’m happy that’s not what happen and I didn’t accept that offer. Even though the money was a lot, I’m happy to be wear I am.” Zielinski said that at Inter;
“I earn plenty, and I can still play at the highest level. ”Of the talks that led him to the Nerazzurri, Zielinski said that “We established contact, day after day, month by month. The interest became more concrete. “I took advantage of their offer. And I’m happy because the greatness of this club is clearly evident.” He further added.
For the club, they’re expected to welcome Tomas Palacios to the club today, ahead of his medicals and eventual signing of contract from Argentine club, Independiente Rivadivia, which will take place next week.
Furthermore, Cryptocurrency trading platform Gate.io have been officially confirmed as the new sleeve sponsor for the 2024-25 season, with the club announces the new partnership on their official site.
They’ve now joined Betsson, who replaced Paramount+ as the new main shirt sponsor. Then there is U-Power, the back-of-shirt sponsor for the Nerazzurri starting last season. Inter had been in search of a new sleeve sponsor.
