Inter’s New Transfer Target Comes With A Tactical Switch Plus How It Affects Luis Henrique And Ivan Perisic
It has been a well documented problem on the right side of wing-back role for current Serie A table leaders and former champions, Inter Milan this season following the injury suffered by Denzel Dumfries, forcing the manager to rely heavily on summer signing, Luis Henrique.
More Details
While the former Marseille star has been solid in his defensive duties, he has offered very little for the attack, unlike Dumfries and this has forced the club to start considering their options as he head into the second half of the season with lots of targets to be met.

At the start of the January transfer window, they vigorously pursued a deal to sign Portuguese star, Joao Cancelo from Al Hilal but the player preferred to join Barcelona, one of his former club just like Inter and for the Italian side, they’re now considering their options further.
After much searching, it looks like their search has taken them to the Saudi Pro League once again as recent reports claim that Inter have made an enquiry for former Aston Villa and Eintracht Frankfurt winger Moussa Diaby, who is said to be keen on a return to Europe after 18 months in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad.
According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky Sport Italia, Inter have made an initial enquiry regarding the availability of the 11-time France international as Di Marzio revealed that this is not set to be a particularly straightforward process and might become complicated.
This is because Al-Ittihad are unwilling to let him go after spending €60m on him in the summer of 2024 but the player is said to be keen on a return to Europe as he had a short spell in Serie A at the beginning of his career, on loan with Crotone from Paris Saint-Germain, where he made two appearances at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Inter are reportedly interested in a loan with an option to buy but his coming would depend heavily on the future of Luis Henrique who has plenty of admirers in the English Premier League, especially Bournemouth who are ready to pay a total of €25m to sign him between loan and an obligation to buy a year later.
As for another Inter target, Ivan Perisic, Inter will still go ahead with their plans to bring him back to the club from PSV Eindhoven even if they sign Diaby as Cristian Chivu has a tactical tweak in mind if all the dominoes do fall in place, that is the arrival of Diaby and Perisic and the exit of Luis Henrique.
Signing the 27-year-old will be just like Inter’s failed attempt for Ademola Lookman in the last summer transfer window and he’s expected to aid Chivu’s plan for a switch to a possible three man attack, either in a 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 formation and this will be used primarily to break down teams that play the low block formation.

For now, PIF and Al-Ittihad are expected to give a verdict on whether they will let Diaby depart and in a related development, Nicolo Barella has reportedly undergone detailed medical checks on the injury that will prevent him from taking the field to against Borussia Dortmund today.
According to reports, the 28-year-old visited the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano this morning to undergo examinations to assess the extent of the problem as he failed to travel to Germany as the Nerazzurri will take on Borussia Dortmund in a ‘make or break’ UEFA Champions League clash later this evening.
However, Chivu will be without two standout midfielders. In addition to Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu is also unavailable as the Italian midfielder sustained a muscle injury during Monday’s training session. Therefore, he will not be not be available for Inter’s final league-phase fixture.
Now, the checks have revealed a minor muscular issue, and the club’s medical staff will closely monitor Barella’s condition in the coming days. Barella has been vital to Chivu’s setup this season, registering 29 appearances across all competitions. Furthermore, he has amassed one goal and six assists.

He’s expected to miss at two to three games, starting from tonight and then the weekend game against Cremonese and the Coppa Italia fixture against Torino. Meanwhile, Petar Sucic is likely to take his place in the midfield at the Signal Iduna Park while Davide Frattesi is also another option for Chivu.
