Inzaghi, Dzeko, And Calhanoglu: Inter Debutants Start With A 4-0 Win Over Genoa

Written by Dare Solomon
It was an outing of fun for the Nerazzurri as Inter Milan welcomed back the fans with an emphatic 4-0 win over Genoa to send a strong message of their intention for the new season.
Despite losing Romelu Lukaku and former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, their key contributors to winning the league, Milan Skrinar was quick to make the fans feel relaxed in the 6th minute when Calhanoglu’s corner found the defender’s head in the box.
Just 14 minutes into his debut, Calhanoglu hit an unstoppable shot from 20 yards out that curled into the corner to make it 2-0.
The halftime dominance won’t end without Ivan Perisic’s goal ruled out for offside and Edin Dzeko’s kick hitting the top of the woodwork earlier in the 24th minute.
The second half didn’t match the first’s frenetic pace but Inter extended the lead to 3-0 after Nicolo Barella pounced on the ball with an exquisite back-heel flick to set up Arturo Vidal’s right-footed finish from a few yards out.

Having provided an assist to Calhanoglu’s goal, Edin Dzeko put the cherry on the cake to complete a perfect evening at the Meazza unstoppable header from Vidal’s cross.
And after 90 minutes, Simone Inzaghi spoke highly of his team and their unity.
“For sure, I found a very, very compact group that came from a very important season last year. Seeing them is a pleasure, for how they train and how they apply. So it’s right that they enjoy this success.” said Inzaghi
Yesterday I was calm because usually (when) approaching the matches we’ll see the results. Seeing the training sessions with my staff, we knew that we should and could have played the game we did and we enjoy this success.” Inzaghi concluded.

Sassuolo on Saturday laboured to victory despite going two goals up in the 3-2 victory away at the Stadio Bentegodi against Verona. With Miguel Veloso picking up his second yellow card in the first half Mattia Zaccagni’s brace was not enough to rescue Verona from the defeat.
For Lazio, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Manuel Lazzari, and Ciro Immobile gave Mauricio Sarri a smoking 3-1 victory over his former team Empoli.
While in Turin, Andrea Belotti’s equalizer was the only goal Torino could provide in their 2-1 loss to Atalanta with Luis Muriel and Roberto Piccoli scoring for the Nerazzurri.
