Inzaghi May Not Be Able To Come Upon Any Youth Player For Inter Milan’s Final Game Of The Season

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Barring any last minute change, Inter Milan will play their last game of the season on Sunday, away to Hellas Verona with the two teams having little to play for heading into the encounter at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi stadium in Verona.

More Details

With the home side already securing their Serie A status in their previous match, a 2-1 away win over already relegated Salernitana, they would head into this fixture with more serenity while for the Nerazzurri, they’ve already secured the Serie A title since 33rd round of matches.

It is largely expected that Simone Inzaghi would field a less than usual strong lineup, we probably won’t see players from the Primavera side featuring in this encounter because they’ve a commitment of their own. The Christian Chivu-coached side definitely have a host of players that can make the jump from the youth side to the main team.

Starting from the young Nigerian midfielder, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, who has already made his debut this season to the likes of Aleksander Stankovic (son of Dejan Stankovic and captain of the team), Enoch Owusu, Amadou Sarr and Giacomo Stabile to mention but a few.

Instead, the Primavera side are preparing to fight for the league title in the playoffs. The top six sides in the regular league table go into a play-off to decide who will be the champion, and the sides in question this season are Milan, Inter, Lazio, Atalanta, AS Roma and Sassuolo.

As Inter and Roma were first and second in the table, they go straight into the semi-finals. Inter will play the winners of the quarter-final between Atalanta and Sassuolo (May 24) and Roma will face the winners of Milan vs Lazio (May 24). The semi-finals will be on May 28.

If a quarter-final is a draw after 90 minutes, the team with the best placing in the regular season goes through, while in the semi-finals it goes directly to penalties, without extra time. Milan are the least likely to win the title out of the six sides as they finished sixth in the regular season, getting 51 points from 34 games.

By comparison, Inter at the top got 67 points, two more than Roma in second. The final is on May 31 and it is largely expected that the Inter team would be playing in the final and probably lifting the trophy.

Meanwhile…

The Giuseppe Meazza stadium, also known as the San Siro has been named as the venue for the 2027 Champions League final but there are certain guarantees that need to be made before preparation can really begin.

As has been reported by ANSA, the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Dublin resulted in San Siro being granted the 2027 Champions League final. The decision has actually been suspended until September, though, because it is “subject to communication from the FIGC on the renovation project” of the facility.

There is a lack of clarity as to what physical state the San Siro will be in by 2027 and that is why UEFA cannot press ahead with the plans just yet.Various other UEFA hosting duties were also decided at the meeting, such as the 2026 Champions League final being in Budapest.

The 2026 Europa League final will be at Besiktas Park in Istanbul, whilst the 2027 final will be in Frankfurt at the Stadion Frankfurt. As for the Europa Conference League, the 2026 final is going to be in Leipzig, with the 2027 one in Istanbul.

For the women’s Champions League, the 2026 final has been assigned to Oslo while for 2027, a new application procedure will have to be started “since Germany has already been designated for the 2026 and 2027 finals and therefore the Stuttgart’s offer cannot be taken into consideration.”
