Firstly, the 29 year old left Inter Milan in Favour of a return to Chelsea claiming he had unfinished business there.
The Inter faithfuls were really not happy with that decision following the timing and controversies that surrounded the move.
He started at Chelsea like he was there to solve their long term striker’s problem but faded away as games went by.
He was ultimately dropped from the Chelsea starting eleven following series of unfortunate incidents which included suffering from Covid-19 and injuries.
Lukaku had an interview with Italian journalist Matteo Barzaghi in December where he criticized his coach and the team’s approach which made the club take action against him.
He kept talking to everyone at Inter even while contacted to Chelsea and started the process of his return to San Siro around March which eventually happened before the end of June despite looking impossible from the beginning.
He has been welcomed by Inter from his sojourn to Chelsea but has been told he has to earn back his respect on the pitch.
However, instead of focusing on the Serie A season which kicks off on Saturday with Inter travelling to face Lecce, the former Manchester United forward in an interview with DAZN released on Wednesday has spoken on what happened at Chelsea and how fans have sadly lost respect for him.
“I think that in a year everyone has forgotten some things that I am able to do in the field. He said to DAZN. That’s some kind of anger that I have inside of me. Which now the team also has, which did not win last year: all together we hope to do better and bring something home.”
Asked if he was wrong to leave the San Siro 12 months ago, the Belgium international explained: “So many things. I think that before, when I left, I wanted to take this revenge at Chelsea because when I was young, they had been my team for 11 years. I had the opportunity to go back there and think I was the protagonist, but it wasn’t like that.
“In March, when I learned there was an opportunity to come back here, I didn’t say anything, but towards the end of the season we did a great job with the club and I was able to come back here. I only reflect at the end of the season, so after the last game I started to think about my situation alone.”
“I saw that as a player with Inter I did well, the season at Chelsea was difficult for me. I had no doubts, that’s why I made the decision to come back here.”
Romelu Lukaku has drawn a lot of applause from the Italian media most of whom feels that the Belgian’s Inter return will propel them to the Serie A title.
Meanwhile…
Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini has given his opinion on this season’s Serie A.
The former Scudetto winning manager with Inter Milan said the Milan clubs and Juventus are way ahead of others in the pecking order.

He has also tipped returning Romelu Lukaku to make a difference in the title race.
Asked for his title favourites during an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the Azzurri coach replied, “Milan, Inter, and Juve. And then just after them, Roma and Napoli.”
Regarding the Nerazzurri’s defensive issues in preseason he predict that “Fighting for three points will bring more concentration. The defenders are the same we ever and they’ve always been reliable.”
He went on to note, “Another point is that Romelu Lukaku can make the difference in Serie A.”
Asked if he feels that Lukaku’s arrival or Ivan Perisic’s departure will have a bigger effect, Mancini predicted “Absolutely. Also because even though Perisic is an extraordinary player, if Gosens plays like the real Gosens, Inter won’t lose much.”
“They have two points to make up on Milan, and they do so having added Lukaku.”
