For their manager, Simone Inzaghi, he sounded a bit like his Napoli counterpart Antonio Conte during his post match interview after the final whistle in the 2-1 victory over Feyenoord on Tuesday night, insisting that the Nerazzurri are doing great things, which are often taken for granted.

Just like we saw from the first leg, Marcus Thuram opened the scoring and then Hakan Calhanoglu ensured the win from the spot, adding to a 2-0 win in the first leg at De Kuip last week.
Inzaghi, who had to do without Lautaro Martinez, Nicolo Barella, Federico Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni in his starting line-up, was delighted with what he saw from his players. He suggested that Inter’s performances are often taken for granted, sounding similar to Conte.
The former Inter manager had claimed that what Napoli are doing is not normal, please trust me during his post-match press conference after his side beat Fiorentina 2-1 in Serie A at the weekend. Inzaghi, speaking during his post-Feyenoord press conference, said:
“I’m very happy, getting into the quarters is extraordinary. I feel a few compliments should be given to this team, and I will give them publicly tonight. The support of our fans is enough for us, but I would like to hear even more, this team is doing great things, which are often taken for granted.”
“Nothing should be taken for granted in football.” He further added. He also had nice things to say about young debutants Thomas Berenbruch and Matteo Cocchi. “They’re two guys who are also doing great in the UEFA Youth League: they’re in the quarterfinals.”
“They train regularly with us, they deserved this opportunity and have very important technical qualities” He concluded. Meanwhile, for his Feyenoord counterpart, Robin van Persie, the former Arsenal and Manchester United striker claimed that Inter were given a dubious penalty.
Further suggesting that the officials made the call maybe a bit too easily despite admitting that it’s never easy to concede so early, but applauded his players for getting themselves level in spite of many absentees due to injuries that decimated their squad recently.
He then claimed that the whole Feyenoord camp believed in an against-the-odds comeback when Jakub Moder levelled from the penalty spot. “The players worked a lot and defended well, with a high and low block. Some moments should have gone better.”

“We played against a very strong team and when they start pressing, it’s really difficult,” van Persie said in his post-match press conference, reported. He continued: “It’s never nice to concede so early, we also felt the support of our fans throughout the game.”
“The boys did everything they could and I can’t ask for more than that.” Inter restored their three-goal advantage in the tie through a Calhanoglu penalty. Mehdi Taremi had tried to chase down a Feyenoord defender right in the corner of the penalty area, but was fouled and a penalty was given in his side’s favour.
Asked if his side believed in the comeback before Calhanoglu scored, van Perside said: “Yes, and the players, too. It’s great when you manage to equalise, even if we should have scored two goals afterwards. It was a shame to concede a goal immediately after half-time.”

“It’s a dubious penalty that was perhaps given a bit too easily.” He concluded. For the Dutch side, they will now have to return to League action this weekend where they will face Twente away from home with the hope of securing a top three finish this season.
