Tuchel, who was also strongly linked with the Manchester United coaching job had Erik ten Hag been fired, is said to have signed a first 18-month deal that will last until the 2026 World Cup. Anthony Barry, his normal right-hand man, will support him.
Although Tuchel signed his contract more than a week ago, the FA held off on announcing his hiring in order to prevent any disturbances in the camp while Lee Carsley, the acting head coach, concentrated on their Nations League matches against Finland and Greece.
“I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team,” Tuchel told englandfootball.com.
“I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.
“Working closely with Anthony as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud. I want to thank the FA, in particular Mark and John, for their trust and I am looking forward to starting our journey together.”

After Gareth Southgate resigned from the England team following the Euro 2024 final, Mark Bullingham and John McDermott got to work finding his replacement, interviewing “several” managers.
Before he opted to take command of the USA national team, former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, along with Eddie Howe and Graham Potter, were thought to have been among the leading candidates.
Carsley was a candidate for the top job, despite giving conflicting signals about his desire for the role, while it was also claimed earlier this week that an approach had been made to Pep Guardiola of Manchester City.
