Reports linking United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) star Jaedyn Shaw to a trade from San Diego to North Carolina surfaced late last week, as the San Diego Wave’s roster exodus continues.
Shaw requested a move away from San Diego, her first professional club, in 2024, The Equalizer reported, with the team facilitating that request ahead of the 2025 season.
The 20-year-old attacker leaves the club having scored 14 goals in 61 appearances, also snagging National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Best XI honors after her 2023 breakout season.

Following coach Casey Stoney’s June 2024 departure, the Wave has seen both players and executives leave in what’s become a period of great change for the 2023 Shield winners.
San Diego recently announced the hiring of former Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall as head coach under ex-Kansas City Current General Manager Cami Ashton, with president Jill Ellis moving on to assume a new role at FIFA.

The roster shakeups have also been swift, with stars like Shaw and Abby Dahlkemper requesting trades, forward Sofia Jakobsson transferring out of the NWSL, and USWNT legend Alex Morgan retiring mid-season.
While Shaw’s arrival undoubtedly emboldens the Courage’s frontline, all eyes will be on San Diego as the Wave’s 2024 struggles carry into the new year.
