Jana Fernandez has a contract with European and Spanish champions FC Barcelona until June of this year, but the club has an option to unilaterally renew it for one more year before February 15.

More Details

The defender has important offers from English and American clubs.

Barça intends to execute the one-year extension on the contract, but it implies a salary increase, and in the next few days, there will be contacts between the parties.

National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side, San Diego Wave wants her immediately and is considering presenting an offer soon.

The 22-year-old contract will end with FC Barcelona in June 2025 after her last renewal, which took place in December 2022, and the next few days will be key for her future, as Mundo Deportivo has been able to find out.

Jana, who was the first woman to reach the first team, coming from the Barça Academy and going through all the lower categories, has a clause in her current contract by which FC Barcelona can execute one more year of the contract unilaterally, but to do so it must do so before February 15 of this year.

Among the details to which the platform has had access, the Barcelona club intends to execute this plus one, but if this happens, it would contractually imply a substantial salary increase, so before that, there are issues to be discussed between the club and the player’s entourage.

The player has important offers from English and American clubs and it is Jana herself who does not turn a deaf ear to the proposals that come to her, England being her preference if she decides to leave her home, Barça.

At the same time, the platform has learned that the San Diego Wave is one of the clubs that is after the Barça defender although there is still no offer at Barça.

The Americans have recently received just over a million euros for the transfer of Girma to Chelsea and have fresh money to spend on signings. They have just appointed Jonas Eidevall as coach after he departed from Arsenal.

Eidevall would be the main supporter of Jana, whom the Swede has had his eye on and whom he would like to incorporate even immediately. At Barça, on the other hand, without having any evidence of any interest, they are clear that at this stage of the season, they are not going to part with Jana or any important piece unless a dizzying offer arrives, which will not happen with the San Diego Wave.
