Austin FC have bolstered their attack by acquiring 23-year-old Canadian international Jayden Nelson from the Vancouver Whitecaps.

More Details

To secure the forward, Austin sent Vancouver a total of $1.25 million in General Allocation Money ($700k in 2026 and $550k in 2027) along with their 2026 first-round SuperDraft pick.

“First and foremost, we are extremely grateful to Jayden for his time at the club. He played a key role in our historic season, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his career,” said Vancouver sporting director Axel Schuster.

“This move ultimately benefits all parties. It gives Jayden an excellent opportunity to earn regular minutes and continue pursuing his dream of playing a World Cup on home soil.

“From our club’s perspective, we have several quality players in similar positions, and the allocation money acquired will be reinvested to further strengthen our squad as we continue pushing toward new heights in 2026.”

Following a three-year stint as a Toronto FC homegrown talent (2020–22), Jayden Nelson made a successful return to MLS with the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2025.

He recorded 14 goal contributions (3 goals, 11 assists) in 40 appearances, playing a key role in Vancouver’s Canadian Championship title, as well as their runs to the Concacaf Champions Cup and MLS Cup finals.

On the international stage, Nelson has earned 12 caps and scored twice for Canada as he pushes for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
