Jeremy Jacquet Set Sights On His Next Move Amid Chelsea, Liverpool Link

Reports suggest that Rennes highly-rated defender Jeremy Jacquet has favored a move to Chelsea over other potential suitors.

The 20-year-old center-back has established himself as one of the premier young talents in Ligue 1, despite having only 35 top-flight appearances under his belt.

He has become a mainstay for Rennes this term, earning a spot in the starting lineup for 16 of his 17 league outings. Chelsea were so impressed by Jacquet’s displays that reports surfaced earlier this month of an incoming offer from the club.

Despite reported interest from heavyweights like Liverpool and Bayern Munich, the Blues appear to be in the driver’s seat for Jacquet. According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, the player has prioritized a move to Chelsea over any other potential suitors.

While negotiations between Chelsea and Rennes are underway, finalizing the transfer before Monday’s deadline remains a significant challenge. Rennes is hesitant to lose a key defender mid-season, and because Jacquet is signed through 2029, the French side are in no rush to sell.

With Tosin Adarabioyo out with a hamstring strain and Levi Colwill still recovering from a serious knee injury, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior is working with a lean rotation of Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, and youngster Josh Acheampong.

To bolster the ranks, the club has brought Aaron Anselmino back from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, though his stay may be short-lived if the Blues successfuly land a new defensive target in the market.

Despite having the joint third-best defense in the league—conceding only 25 goals across 23 games—the club’s leadership clearly feels the unit hasn’t reached its full potential yet.
