Jonatan Giraldez: Former Barcelona Coach Proud Of Ballon d’Or And FIFA Nominations

Washington Spirit coach, Jonatan Giraldez said nothing is certain after nomination for the lastest Ballon d’Or award.

The former FC Barcelona gaffer was short listed for the 2024 Ballon d’Or alongside five other gaffers in the women’s football category.
He helped the Catalan side will the league and their second UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) title.
“No, nothing. Last year at The Best Awards, people were congratulating me at the hotel, thinking I’d win for sure, but then it went to Sarina Wiegman,” Giraldez told Spanish outlet, Marca.

“One thing I’ve learned is to ignore things that are out of my control and focus I can manage. Sport-wise, I’ve given 100% and personally, I’ve won all the possible titles.”
While stating that being nominated for both FIFA The Best and Ballon d’Or is a honour, he affirmed that few coached get to be nominated.

“If I’m recognised and win the award that’s perfect. If not, it just means other coaches have also done great work and deserve the prize.
“Very few coaches get the chance to be nominated for these awards, and it makes me really happy to be nominated. After the season we had last year, being recognised as one of the best coaches is sometimes to be proud of.”
Giraldez joined NWSL side, Washington Spirit after winning all available titles with FC Barcelona last season.
