The 23-year-old has become Man United’s top forward target this summer as the team looks to compete with Rasmus Hojlund in the 2024–25 season.

Zirkzee and Manchester United are said to have already reached a personal terms agreement, but the specifics of the agreement between the two teams still need to be worked out.

The forward’s contract includes a €40 million (£33.9 million) release clause. It is unclear if the Red Devils would exercise their buy-out option or try to reach a cheaper agreement.

Zirkzee made 158 appearances in all competitions, including time spent with Bayern Munich’s second team. He scored 42 goals, including four goals for Bayern’s first squad while he was at Allianz Arena.

In the end, Zirkzee had to leave Bayern to further his career, but in the 2021–22 season, he scored 18 goals while on loan at Anderlecht. Last season, the Dutchman scored 12 goals in 37 appearances for Bologna, 11 of which were in the Italian league.

According to reports, Premier League clubs have approved the introduction of a development plan that will curb spending beginning with the 2025–2026 season.

The spending cap proposals were approved by 16 teams, and their goal is to keep the gap between the Premier League’s lower-half teams and its financial titans from growing.

Nevertheless, a report from BBC Sport claims that three teams vying for European football—Manchester United, Manchester City, and Aston Villa—are thought to have voted against the proposal.
