Currently, talks have been postponed until after the final and while the two parties remain confident, it looks like there is an issue that needs to be ironed out first. According to reports, Simone Inzaghi wants guarantees in the transfer market before he agrees to a contract extension.
This is according to a report from Tuttosport, who are of the opinion that the manager wants assurances about experience in the squad. The Nerazzurri certainly have no doubts about wanting to continue on with the coach who has guided them to two UCL finals in three years.
For his part, the 49-year-old wants to stay as he certainly feels that there is more to achieve with the club. Furthermore, money is not the issue for him as Inter will reportedly offer him a wage increase to €7 million net per season with significant add-ons which should be sufficient.
There was a scare recently after a mega offer was reportedly offered from the middle east, but the former Lazio manager will definitely reject the offer from Al-Hilal and the Saudi club are willing to offer a contract worth €20 million per season, but he wants to continue his project at inter.
However, there is one key demand that Inzaghi will make if he is to remain. According to the report, he wants clear assurances regarding the transfer market, specifically, he wants to make sure there is a squad strong enough to keep fighting for trophies if he is to sign a new deal.
The coach wants guarantees from the new American owners, Oaktree Capital about the age of the squad. After a change of ownership, the plan is to lower the average age of the squad. It is the highest in Serie A by some distance, and that is hardly sustainable.
Therefore, Inter will prioritize reinvigorating the squad with younger players this summer. However, at the same time, Inzaghi has never hidden the fact that he likes having experienced players around and he wants to continue to count on a number of players going forward.
Veterans like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian, and Edin Dzeko among others have shone under the Inter coach. Therefore, Inzaghi wants to be certain that Inter won’t exclusively sign young players and then expect him to improve them.

He wants to ensure there is still experience in the team and he also wants strengthen the team, adequately replacing any player that departs with an upgrade. In a related development, the Beneamata have reportedly lined up Massimiliano Allegri as a replacement.
This is in the event of a shock departure of Inzaghi, according to a separate report from Corriere della Sera. There are never any guarantees in football, hence the club’s management is preparing for the possibility of losing their manager, just the same way they snatched him from Lazio.
Hence, there is a contingency plan in case he heads for the exit door. The report added that there is one name at the top of President Beppe Marotta’s list and that is the former Juventus and AC Milan coach. Allegri is a coach who Marotta has a good relationship with.

The pair enjoyed great success together at Juventus. Therefore, the 57-year-old would be the coach the Nerazzurri President would immediately turn to to steady the ship in the event that Inzaghi departs, though for now, that seems like an unlikely outcome.
