Juventus Midfielder To Get New Contract Despite Recent Ban

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Juventus have really been unlucky lately with regards to their players as Massimiliano Allegri has had to deal with several injury concerns and to further complicate matters, two of their players have been banned for different offences.

More Details

First, it was Paul Pogba and most recently, Nicolo Fagioli, but unlike the Frenchman, the Bianconeri are set to keep faith with the young Italian midfielder, whose ban was as a result of the recent betting scandal rocking Italian football.

Recent reports suggest that Juventus are thinking about offering a new contract to the currently-suspended Fagiolo, who received a seven-month ban for his involvement in illegal betting this month. According to the report from Italy, Fagioli is still considered to be a strong asset to the Bianconeri, and someone who could be a linchpin in midfield for many years to come.

Fagioli still has over two-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract, which runs until the summer of 2026, however, the Bianconeri would ideally like to tie the 22-year-old down for even longer. Fagioli is not currently able to play for Juve due to his ban.

Although he is permitted to train with the team and recent reports indicate that he will still be paid fully while he is suspended, unlike Pogba who will receive the barest salary. Formally, Fagioli was handed a 12-month ban, although he will only be banned from playing for seven months.

The remaining five will be covered by his treatment and his commitment to making a series of public appearances to dissuade others from falling into the same trap as he did.

Torino have confirmed that Dutch defender Perr Schuurs has successfully undergone surgery on his injured knee, releasing a photo of him giving the thumbs up from his hospital bed. The 23-year-old centre-back was forced off early into the second half of Toro’s recent Serie A clash against Inter.

He collapsed to the ground following an accidental collision with Italy international Nicolo Barella. Medical examinations shortly afterwards revealed a tear of Schuurs’ anterior cruciate ligament, which will likely keep him out of action for a minimum of six months.

However, Torino’s latest update indicates that the surgery on Schuurs’ knee went according to plan. Torino also notified supporters that Schuurs is set to begin his rehabilitation process in two weeks’ time.
