Written By Onyeka Daniel

It’s been a steady wave of exits from Europe to Saudi Arabia for footballers recently and unlike in the past, the focus is now on players at the peak of their career, rather than the ones that are past their prime as the lure of earning huge salaries seems to be the main driving force.

Notwithstanding, some players have rejected the chance to move to the Saudi Pro League as we saw most recently with Victor Osimhen and now, another top striker has seemingly rejected the offer to move to the Middle East with the promise of a huge salary.

According to reports, Dusan Vlahovic is the latest name on the list and this will definitely frustrate his current club, Juventus, who have been looking to get rid of the former Fiorentina forward for months now. With his refusal to accept transfers, he reportedly rejected €20m per season wages to join Al-Hilal.

The striker is down to the final year of his contract, so runs the real risk of being allowed to leave as a free agent in June 2026 and Juventus are desperate to sell him this summer, but according to reports, he turned down a huge offer worth €20m per season for three years at Al-Hilal.

It would have almost doubled his current wages, which including bonuses will climb to €12m for the final season of his deal in Turin, but Vlahovic and his agent, Darko Ristic agreed that it would not be right to leave Europe at this stage of his career, yet at the same time, he is resisting any pay cuts.

He also reportedly turned down a proposal from Fenerbahce and this is causing a headache for the Bianconeri, who had also tried to propose a new contract at a lower salary, which was also rejected outright. While Vlahovic is still on their books, they cannot realistically sign Jonathan David as a free agent.
