Juventus Want England Midfielder To Replace Pogba, Look To Challenge Milan For Bournemouth Defender

Written By Onyeka Daniel

With the January transfer window fast approaching, it couldn’t have come at a better time for Juventus and AC Milan as they try to deal with the unavailability of their players and will be looking to bring in reinforcement during the winter to continue their Scudetto quest against high flying Inter Milan.

More Details

For the Bianconeri, the midfield is the area that needs urgent attention and after making initial contact, they are now seriously exploring a January move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

They need to pick up a new midfielder in the January transfer window after off-pitch issues removed Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli from Massimiliano Allegri’s squad for the rest of the season.

The former Is still sidelined after testing positive for banned substance DHEA, whilst the latter has been handed a 10-month ban for his involvement in the recent betting scandal.

Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli has drawn up a long list of possible options to strengthen the squad in January and one name in particular has started to gather steam in recent weeks.

According to a recent report from Italy, Juventus contacted Phillips’ entourage recently to sound out a possible move in January and they’ve now started to explore the idea in more depth, believing the 27-year-old could be the solution to their problem.

The Englishman is on the fringes of Pep Guardiola’s squad at Manchester City and is expected to leave in the coming months, having seen just 167 minutes of action across six appearances this season.

The European champions are considering sending out Phillips on a six-month loan deal with no permanence clause in January, a formula that would perfectly suit Juventus, and they don’t want to send him to a Premier League or Champions League rival.

Other clubs around Europe are interested in the 27-year-old, including Tottenham, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich. Phillips likes the idea of becoming a starter at Juventus, so the idea could start becoming more concrete in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile…

As for AC Milan, they have been scouting Bournemouth defender Llyod Kelly but now need to fend off interest from Juventus, reports suggest. The Rossoneri have admitted that a defender will arrive in January after they recently lost Pierre Kalulu and Marco Pellegrino to long-term injuries, limiting Stefano Pioli’s options at the back.

Kelly has emerged as an interesting option for Milan and director Geoffrey Moncada personally visited the Vitality Stadium to watch the Englishman during Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over Burnley last week.

Another report has it that Giuntoli has been keeping tabs on Kelly for some time now and is keen to compete with Milan when the defender’s contract with Bournemouth expires next summer.

The two Italian sides are not alone in their interest, however. Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are all also following the 25-year-old. Kelly recently changed agents to Anglo-Italian Ali Barat, feeling ready to make the jump to a top club.
