Keira Walsh is on cloud nine after playing her first game for Chelsea FC during their hard-fought 1-0 win over Aston Villa in Sunday’s English Women’s Super League (WSL) encounter.

More Details

Walsh, who completed a deadline-day transfer to the Blues from European champions FC Barcelona, was introduced in the second half.

“I am very happy. I think it was an intense game to come into,” She said after the match.

“You can see what the team is about to get the result. I am just really happy to make my debut with these girls.”

Walsh returned to the WSL after moving to Barcelona for the world record deal of 400,000 Pounds from Manchester City in 2022.

“Good to be back to see the fans. So grateful I got the opportunity from Chelsea to play in England.” She added.

“They [Chelsea fans] are a special group of fans. It shows how special these fans are to support the women’s team. We got the job done for them today.

“A little bit of a whirlwind. I wasn’t expecting to play today which was what I had to deal with. Very happy to be here.” She concluded.

A late own goal from Sarah Mayling helped Chelsea to their 12th win after 13 league games in the WSL.

The only missing piece was a 1-1 draw with Leicester City in their last league game of 2024.

Sonia Bompastor’s side has a seven-point lead at the top of the WSL table with 37 points ahead of Manchester United.
