Kosovare Asllani Completes Move To AC Milan As Spanish Players Dominate ESPN Top 10 List

Italian Serie A women’s side, AC Milan has signed former Real Madrid forward Kosovare Asllani on a 2-year contract until 2024.

Milan were third in the league last season, missing out on the 2022/2023 UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) qualification by finishing 8 points behind Roma.

The Swedish, Kosovare Asllani turned down many offers, including from the United States National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and has signed a contract until 2024 with AC Milan.

The former Linkopings, Kristianstads, and Manchester City Women forward spent the last three seasons with Real Madrid.

She scored 24 goals in 63 league games for Real Madrid in the three seasons.

As a member of the Real Madrid side that played in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last season, she scored two goals in three games.

In September 2008, Asllani made her debut for the Swedish national team against Romania, and in 2009 she was called up to represent Sweden in UEFA Women’s Euro 2009.

Asllani was an important member of the national team during the qualification rounds of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup but coach Thomas Dennerby did not select her in the squad sent to Germany for the finals.

Football pundits, including Pia Sundhage, the Swedish coach of the United States national team, expressed surprise at Asllani’s omission.

She has won league titles in Sweden and England with Linkopings and Manchester City.

Asllani is a proficient striker, possessing great speed and technique in her game.

Media house, ESPN released their annual top 10 players list in women’s football.

Three (3) Spanish players; Alexia Putellas from FC Barcelona; Alexia Putellas, Jenni Hermoso (who recently joined the Mexican side, Pachuca), and Aitana Bonmati made the list.

Two (2) Norwegian players; Caroline Graham Hansen and Lyon UEFA Women’s Champions League top goal scorer, Ada Hegerberg also made the cut.

Other players on the list include Sam Kerr (Chelsea FC Women/ Australia), Vivianne Miedema (Arsenal FC/ The Netherlands), Pernille Harder (Chelsea FC Women/ Denmark), Catarina Macario (Lyon/ United States of America), and Marie Antoinette Katoto (PSG/ France).
