Kylian Mbappe Could Play Key Role In Real Madrid Dayot Upamecano's Chase

Reports last week revealed that the Spanish giants had met with Upamecano’s representatives to explore the possibility of a summer move.

Real Madrid are expected to strengthen their defence at the end of the season, and Upamecano has emerged as one of their top targets. The club has also been linked with another French international, Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, who, like Upamecano, will be out of contract next year.

Speaking to the media ahead of France’s World Cup qualifiers, Mbappé was asked about his international teammate and hinted to Marca that a move to Real Madrid would represent a major step forward in Upamecano’s career.

His remarks suggested that Los Blancos should actively pursue the defender, fueling speculation that the forward could help influence his compatriot’s decision.

“He’s doing very well, he’s very confident, full of self-assurance. He’s in the debate about who is the best defender in the world. For me, he’s one of those dominant defenders. He’s capable of keeping up with the forwards, of winning duels. He’s a tactical asset”, as quoted from Football Espana.

“He’s at a big club, Bayern, there’s not much better… But there are better ones (smiles). I’m not going to say anything, I’m not going to get into that debate, out of respect for his club and for him, because I know that if I say something he’ll be under more pressure, but when you talk about a player of this calibre, all the clubs will be on the lookout to sign him.”

However, Real Madrid are not alone in their interest. Bayern Munich remain keen to keep hold of Upamecano, and their determination was evident earlier this year when they secured Alphonso Davies on a new long-term deal.

Club president Herbert Hainer reaffirmed their stance this week to keep him as similarly echoed by Sporting Director Max Eberl, underlining Bayern’s commitment to ensuring that Upamecano remains part of their defensive setup beyond this season.
