La Liga have unveiled new rules for the upcoming 2024-25 season, with a mix of changes and a surprising holdover.

More Details

One notable decision is the continued absence of goal-line technology, a choice that has been criticized before and is likely to remain unpopular.

On the positive side, La Liga is adopting the concussion substitution rule, allowing a sixth substitute in the case of a head injury. This follows a trend already established across Europe.

Two other changes borrow from recent international competitions, including Euro 2024. Semi-automated offside calls will be implemented, as previously announced, and only captains will be allowed to address referees during matches, aiming to reduce player confrontations.

The impact of these changes on La Liga’s 20 clubs remains to be seen.

Real Betis confirmed the long-expected departure of midfielder Guido Rodriguez on Monday. The World Cup winner leaves after his contract expired, despite Betis’ attempts to retain him.

Rodriguez’s future destination remains unclear. While he reportedly had a verbal agreement with Barcelona, it expired in May. Barcelona is still interested, but their financial situation prevents a guaranteed offer until La Liga’s spending rules are resolved.

He’s also attracting interest from other teams, including Atletico Madrid who are looking to bolster their midfield.
